The nature of the Taunus material I was hoping to use as my working sample of Beta fabric has fallen short of initial expectations. It is a low quality fabric and did not stand up to close examination when push came to shove.. so the search continues, but rest assured those that know me will confirm, I won't give up on this.

It shouldn't be too long now before I receive a couple of metres of original Ford Beta.If it checks out, then this will be the basis of my replica fabric and will be whisked off to Shanghai. The game will then begin.

If you can see a trend with my recent posts, it's deliberate and is to illustrate to you the quality I aim for when tackling a new (replica) fabric.
The 2 fabrics shown on my washing line picture were Biarritz and Roland Garros style inserts - Peugeot originals
This picture shows the product achieved whilst prototyping the RG fabric. Only took one go to get right -nice one.
Looks good doesn't it

Further to my post on Ford "Beta" cloth, I have decided to open a project folder for this material. I have spent some time researching and doing my groundwork on the nature of it's current supply and current variants and I am sufficiently convinced that there is a market for a good replica fabric.
My first step is always the same, contact my Chinese manufacturer and check the viability of my idea.
If you are interested then I will form a Beta group, within RAF to keep progress posted.
best regards
Dave

Ford "Beta" cloth. This is an itch that will not be scratched.I have been investigating the various provenance of this material for 2+ years now.
On the face of it, it is NOT a technically challenging fabric, and one that I think is well within the scope of my long standing Chinese fabric manufacturer.
The 2 UK available versions are not available for loose sale, only coming in the form of ready made replacement covers.
Fine, but I think we could do better than that.
I have been the sole architect in producing my Peugeot 205 GTi/Rallye seat fabrics, but have utilised those skills to produce 2 replica fabrics for the Sunbeam-Lotus owners club.
The club members that were interested subscribing to a group purchase scheme to facilitate the fabric manufacture.
Such a scheme could be used to manufacture Beta Cloth.
The numbers required would be around 30-50 stakeholders who make a per member payment of £150 (say) each.
Once what is actually going to be manufactured is decided, the best samples will be needed, in order to send to China for analysis. Provided no pitfalls are encountered, the the development phase commences, with the end result being an approved sample for production.
Post production phase covers, testing, treatments etc performed by Intertek (Shanghai).
Then we have the shipping costs to UK (Freight,VAT,Duty), and also to the client destination in the UK
You must also consider UK storage, and the preparation and shipping of stakeholder order.
As you can see this an involved process, but is one that have a deal of experience in.
It is a matter of Ford owners who are interested , organising themselves, and forming a group purchase club..
I will act as UK liaison and middle man, charging a commission to perform this role.
If this is something you can see taking place then start working your contacts and get a club formed, and we can get this Beta Cloth sorted once and for all.

In one those lucky coincidences that happen, I have discovered that a replica fabric that I manufacture for the Peugeot 205 GTi owners may also be of use to Ford restorers.
A number of trimmers have recently been using my black needlecord fabric - brand name B09, for their trim projects.
If you would like to check out the voracity of my claim then please contact me at [email protected] for further information, or a sample of B09.

I have been hearing that the Ford boys could do with a little help with some fabric. It's called Beta cloth and is used on the Es**rt range. Seemingly rare and as a consequence is fetching silly money.
I personally find that kind of exploitation rather poor, so if anyone can tell me why I shouldn't think about replicating this fabric........

My erstwhile boot liner materila project has been shelved. I was not able to solicit any interest in the venture, whatsoever. Under these circumstances I have decided to abandon it.
A pity, and the true validity of my proposal will emerge once people realise the limited nature of the offerings made by "Peugeot L'aventure - classic spares division".
So be it.

I really have tried my best to get the GTi boot mat project going. I wanted PSCUK to come in with me, because the costs are considerably more than for a seat insert fabric and I can't afford it. It seems that the club's view is that they do not wish to upset the Classic spare parts division of the Peugeot Museum. I hold the view that a car club is to promote the cars and their maintenance, the costs of which just seem to be rising as the French dictate. Don't do things for nothing, fine - but equally to just charge silly prices (because you think you'll get away with it) is bordering on criminal. I believe in offering value for money, and all my GTi goods (foams and fabrics) undercut their equivalent french offerings.
Buy British, buy from me.
