Last week I carried out a wetbelt replacement on a Peugeot 3008 1.2 puretech. This customer was incredibly lucky as the old belt had stripped a few teeth.

If you own a Peugeot, Citroen or Vauxhall with a 1.2 puretech engine, ensure that you keep up with regular oil changes with the correct grade oil, which also gives a good opportunity to keep an eye on the condition of the belt.

This is the result of a “wet belt” timing belt breaking up. Little bits of the belt will break up and get stuck in the oil pickup on the oil pump. When this happens it can cause further issues including oil pressure faults.

With these engines, it’s very important to keep up with regular servicing, as well as changing the timing belts before they start to break down like this (due every 5 years)

If you own a newer Peugeot, Citroen or Vauxhall with a 1.2 petrol engine then there’s a good chance it has one of these wet belts.
