At first glance, your tyre tread might look OK.
But are you just looking at the "good" side?

It's quite common for tyres to wear unevenly, so the outside edge might be fine, but the inside edge may be more worn.

When checking your tread be sure to look all the way over the tyre in case the wear isn't even.

If you see damage in the side of your tyre, is it safe to use?

This is an easy one because damage to the SIDE of your tyre is a bigger concern than damage on the face of the tyre and it's usually a tell-tale sign that it's not safe to drive on.

Look for bulges, cuts or other damage - and if you see any, don't ignore it.

Tyre side wall damages are more likely to cause an issue like a blowout so it should be professionally checked as soon as possible.

Got 20 pence?

If so, you can quickly tell if your tyre tread is deep enough.

Simply place it into the tread and check whether you can see the smooth rim on the coin.

If you can't, then you're fine - the tread is deep enough.

If you can see it peeking about the main tyre, then you probably need to change your tyre.

(Pro tip - remember to check across the whole tyre width).

October is Tyre Safety Awareness month and this is a great way to think about what a 'healthy' tyre looks like.

A.C.T.

Air pressure?
Check it regularly and compare to the manufacturers guidance.

Condition?
Check for damage, especially to the sidewall - things like cuts or bulges.

Tread depth?
You can use the rim of a 20 pence piece as a guide - but make sure you check across the whole tyre width.

There was a time when cars came with cassette players, cigarette lighters and windows you had to wind down yourself. Throw in a manual choke for good measure and driving could feel surprisingly "organic".

What an achievement. A huge well done to Gabi and Dan!

We were very proud to support them as they took on the National Three Peaks Challenge, climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon over three consecutive days.

They completed all three mountains and earned their National Three Peaks Challenge medals, while raising close to £3,000 for Acorns Children’s Hospice.

The challenge was completed in memory of baby Grayson, who spent his final weeks at Acorns - the charity that provides specialist care and support for children with life-limiting conditions and their families across the West Midlands.

A fantastic effort for a cause that means so much to Gabi, Dan and their friends.

Well done from everyone at Cubbingtons - we were thrilled to play a small part by supporting your fundraising.

Historians minds were blown after finding an undiscovered scene on the Bayeux Tapestry when it was moved to London.

The scene depicts a local man who failed to get his car serviced with us and finds himself stuck by the side of the road.

Realising his error, he sends a message to book in for repairs urgently.

Historians are calling it "the birth of wisdom."

Remarkable.

Do electric cars need an MOT?

We heard someone ask this the other day - and the answer is yes, they do.

Once an electric car reaches three years old, it generally needs an annual MOT just like a petrol or diesel car.

There might not be an exhaust or emissions test to worry about, but there’s still plenty that needs checking, including:

Tyres, brakes, steering, suspension, lights, seatbelts, windscreen... the list goes on.

So, unfortunately going electric doesn’t mean saying goodbye to your annual MOT.
