🚗 Penalty points can start before you pass your driving test

Newly published DVLA figures reportedly show that more than 192,000 endorsements were recorded against provisional licence holders between 2022 and 2025.

The most frequently recorded offences were:

⚠️ Driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence
⚠️ Driving without the required insurance
⚠️ Speeding

This is an important reminder that learning to drive involves much more than controlling the vehicle and preparing for the test.

When practising privately, learners and supervising drivers must make sure:

✅ The learner is properly insured
✅ Correct L plates are displayed at the front and rear
✅ The supervising driver is legally eligible
✅ The vehicle is roadworthy, taxed and insured
✅ All speed limits and other road laws are followed

Points received while learning do not simply disappear after passing. Any valid points normally transfer to the full licence, potentially leaving a newly qualified driver much closer to having their licence revoked if they receive further points during their first two years.

Private practice can be extremely valuable when it is legal, properly supervised and supports what the learner is being taught professionally. The key message is not to avoid private practice—it is to make sure everyone understands the responsibilities that come with it.

🚗 BIG CHANGES are coming to the UK driving test booking system in 2026 👀

The DVSA has started introducing major new rules aimed at:
✅ reducing waiting times
✅ stopping bots & test reselling
✅ making the system fairer for learners

Already happening:
📅 From March 2026
❌ Anti-bot measures introduced
❌ Test bookings now limited to TWO changes only

Coming soon:
📅 From 12 May 2026
❌ Instructors will no longer be able to manage bookings for pupils

📅 From June 2026
❌ Restrictions on changing to distant test centres

The DVSA says these changes are designed to reduce abuse of the booking system — but will they actually improve things for learners and instructors?

🚗 PRIVATE PRACTICE? READ THIS FIRST.

If you're supervising a learner driver in Lancaster, you’re not just a passenger — you’re legally responsible for making sure practice is safe and lawful.

Private practice is a brilliant way to build confidence…
But only when it’s done properly 👇

✅ The supervising driver must be 21+
✅ Have held a full licence for at least 3 years
✅ Be qualified for the vehicle type
✅ Be fit to drive and fully focused

🚫 No phones
🚫 No alcohol over the legal limit
🚫 No switching off and “just sitting there”

Remember — private practice supports learning, but it doesn’t replace structured, professional tuition.

To pass safely and confidently, learners need:
✔ Proper guidance
✔ Correct techniques
✔ Up-to-date test standard training
✔ Honest feedback

That’s where we come in.

📅 Evening and weekend lessons are now available
Perfect for learners fitting lessons around college, work, or family commitments.

If you’re practising privately, make sure you’re also getting professional instruction alongside it.

📩 Message us today to book your evening or weekend slot.

🚗 Attention Learner Drivers! 📢

From 31 March 2026, you’ll only be able to change your driving test booking 2 times – whether it’s the date, time, test centre, or swapping with another learner.

✅ Plan your test wisely – everyone gets 2 changes, no matter how many you’ve already made!

🚗 How to Make Sure Your Driving Instructor is Legit (UK)

Learning to drive is exciting — but your safety comes first! ✅ Before you book your lessons, here’s how to check your instructor is qualified:

Check their badge: Green = ADI, Pink = PDI. Must be clearly displayed.

DVSA registration: All paid instructors must be registered. Not showing in GOV.UK postcode searches is normal — it doesn’t mean they’re illegitimate.

Verify if needed: Ask for their badge number or name and confirm with DVSA (0300 200 1122).

Car & safety: Dual controls, insured for lessons, clean and roadworthy.

Professionalism & payment: Respectful teaching, clear lesson plan, transparent pricing, traceable payment.

Quick rule: Green/pink badge + DVSA registration ✅ | No badge or confirmation ❌

💡 A great instructor keeps you safe, builds confidence, and explains everything clearly.

🚗 Test Readiness & the Role of Your Instructor

Learning to drive isn’t just about passing a test — it’s about becoming a safe, confident and independent driver for life.
Your instructor is there to teach, guide and support you during lessons. That includes prompts, reminders and talking you through situations while you’re learning. But on test day, it’s just you and the examiner — no help, no reminders, no prompts.

That’s why test readiness is about being able to drive independently, safely and consistently, not rushing a booking or hoping for a bit of luck.

We’re often asked if someone can have “just a lesson or two” and then hire the car for their test. While we understand the pressure of long test waiting times, that isn’t a realistic expectation. An instructor isn’t a hire car — we’re professionals whose role is to help you achieve your goal of becoming a safe, capable driver, not simply to accompany you on test day.

If you still need regular prompts, that doesn’t mean you’re failing — it just means you’re still learning, and that’s exactly what lessons are for.

🧠 Taking the time to be ready isn’t a delay.
❤️ It’s an investment in safety.
