🔧 A few standout jobs in the workshop this week at SM Autotech!

We’ve had a Transit Custom in for a full engine replacement, getting it back up and running smoothly.

Another 2.0 Transit came in for an injector replacement — this one needed the injector puller tool to remove it safely without causing damage.

And we also carried out a timing belt replacement on an Iveco Daily. Staying on top of timing belt intervals is crucial on these vans to avoid costly engine damage, so if yours is due, we can get you sorted.

We continue to be super busy here at SM Autotech 🔧

This Mitsubishi came in for some cosmetic upgrades:

• Roof light bar

• Front DRLs (which flash amber with the indicators)

• 35mm wheel spacers all round

• Bigger tyres to give it some real road stance!

We’ve also been carrying out a few Transit wet belt jobs—check out the photos, this one was caught just in time.

Other vehicles in the workshop include a Citroen in for diagnostics with a faulty engine ECU.

🔧 This Iveco Daily came to us with a worrying engine rattle. After a quick diagnosis, we traced the fault to the rear cam chain—the guide had broken away, causing the chain to lose tension and rattle against the cam box cover.

We fitted a new cam chain kit, timing belt, water pump, and fresh gaskets. Now it’s running smoothly again, and the customer is happy to have their van back on the road ! 🚐✅

🚐🔧 Recent Work at SM AutoTech 🔧🚐

This 2019 Ford Transit Custom arrived to us with a fault — no wipers or washers working. Not ideal with the Scottish weather! 🌧️

After thorough diagnostics, we found it wasn’t your typical blown fuse or faulty motor. The real issue? Water ingress had caused corrosion on the Body Control Module (BCM), preventing the signal from reaching the control relay.

We supplied and programmed a replacement BCM, and now the customer can drive safely and confidently — no more worrying about rain on the road. ✅

Preventative Maintenance Saves Time & Money

Yesterday, we attended a van that wouldn’t move,
completely stuck in the customer’s yard. The issue? The brake pad had worn right down to the metal and jammed into the carrier. Not only did this cause unnecessary downtime, but it could have been avoided with a simple check.

Thankfully, we were able to get the vehicle repaired on-site and back to work the same day. But it’s a great reminder of why Vehicle Health Checks are so important.

Emergency Call-Out This Morning
We were called out to James McIntyre & Son Ltd after their cherry picker lorry was grounded by an electrical fault. The issue was quickly identified and repaired on-site, getting the vehicle back up and running so the team could complete their job without delay.

A local customer recently recovered a Renault Trafic van to us due to a no-start issue.
A few other garages had already taken a look and suspected a jump-start may have damaged the engine ECU.

After carrying out diagnostic checks, we found a short to positive on the vehicle’s CANbus system. With further investigation, we traced the fault to a single connector behind the dashboard, which had suffered water ingress and corrosion to the terminals.

It was a lengthy diagnostic process, but once identified, the repair was straightforward. The van is now back up and running — ready to hit the road and start earning again.

Why a Wet Belt Service on Your Ford Matters

If you drive a Ford with the 2.0 EcoBlue engine, this one’s for you.

These engines use a wet timing belt system — the belt runs inside the engine, lubricated by oil. Over time, that belt can degrade, contaminating the oil and potentially leading to serious engine damage if left too long.

Why it’s important to service it:

• Ford recommends changing the wet belt at set intervals (we’ve seen these fail well before, the photos here are from a low mileage transit custom).

• If the belt fails, it can take out the engine — resulting in a very expensive repair.
