From now on, both Class 4 and Class 7 MOTs will be £50, for both trade and public customers. This will commence from the 1st of September 2026

Last week we had this Ford Transit in with warning lights on the dash.

After a quick diagnosis and inspection, we found the rear ABS ring had cracked causing the ABS fault and the rear brake pads had worn down to the wear sensor.

We replaced the rear ABS ring along with new discs and pads, cleared the fault codes, and carried out a full road test to ensure everything was operating as it should.

Another Transit back on the road and ready for the customer to get back to work!

A lot of modern cars and vans now use something called a wet belt (also known as a timing belt running in oil).

Cars commonly affected include:
Ford 2.0 Diesel (Transits, Mondeo, Rangers)
Ford 1.0 EcoBoost engines (Fiesta, Focus, EcoSport)
Peugeot & Citroën 1.2 PureTech engines
Vauxhall/Opel 1.2 Turbo engines
Some Honda 1.0 VTEC Turbo engines

Symptoms of a failing wet belt:
• Engine warning light or oil pressure light
• Loss of power or poor performance
• Rough running or misfires
• Whining or unusual engine noise
• Oil contamination (belt breaking up cracking
• Blocked oil pickup causing low oil pressure

What damage can it cause?
If a wet belt fails, it’s not just a simple fix. It can lead to:
• Complete engine failure
• Bent valves and internal damage
• Blocked oil system leading to seized engines
• Repair bills running into the thousands

Don’t just rely on mileage wet belts can degrade over time as well as distance. Regular servicing with the correct oil is critical and early replacement can save your engine.
