fantastic wee cafe with the best homemade pies and sausage rolls 😋
6 months ago, I met Gav, today I'm resharing his story after I ran into him yesterday.
"My names Gavin and I've owned Templehall Cafe since 2014.
I kinda fell into this industry at 14 when I was at school during work placement, I ended up starting right there and then and began working full time. I opened this place up when my son was 4 and I thought "why's that place empty, lets get it open". And a week later, we did. We're at the heart of the community here in Templehall, you'll get the best food here, all handmade. It's not easy with the chains around us, but we hope people would come here instead of going elsewhere, put money right back into the community.
I just live up the hill from here, and we've got a fantastic community. Like everywhere else, it has its bad bits, its problems, but there's good people here. We like to help out at Easter and Christmas, by helping out families, this is all community funded, people will pass and pop money in. It's just a great wee place, despite its reputation.
Aside from having my own handyman business for a few years, this is all I know. I've worked at some of most well loved restaurants all over Fife as well, so it's something that's been a massive part of my life. I used to work 10 till 10, long days and now I'm trying to get the doors shut at 4 so I can get home to my son.
My staff are great, Brian, my chef does all the cooking now after my health took a hit. He was at Blacketyside and has been phenomenal to be honest, a chef all his life like myself. I can only do so much now and we're still trying to work out what's up with me, I woke up with the worst unimaginable pain of my life, it was like my brain was being stabbed, my eyes felt like they were going to burst. After plenty of tests, I was diagnosed with Hemicrania continua, cluster headaches and thunderclap and if one sympton manifests, the other two come along just for good measure. I get an injection every 3 months in my brain to help with it.
I'd definitely tell anybody to come up to Templehall, there's plenty free parking here, buses every 15 minutes too. A community is only as good as the people in it, and its been great to serve so many people over the years, hopefully we can all continue to look after one another"
