audi A4

track rod ends replacement

serviced this car a couple of weeks ago and advised on track rod ends both having split gators, customer booked back in at next available date to have the work done.

bit of a pain getting the retaining bolts out but got there in the end and customer advised to get wheel alignment done to ensure straight driving and prevent unnecessary wear on tyre edges 👍🏽

audi A4 2.0L TFSI

timing chain and balance shaft chain replacement ⛓️

customers vehicle was just turning over and occasionally would start but would cut out after a few seconds, after a listen i was able to confirm that the engine was getting no compression. along with that there was a code for camshaft-crankshaft correlation which indicated partial timing chain failure.

i got use of a ramp for this one making life a bit easier and kept me dry, once it was stripped it was obvious the chain had stretched as there was far to much slack on one side and one of the camshafts was out but 3/4 teeth.

both chains stripped back and everything timed up before putting back together with new chains, guides and tensioners and then turned over by hand to ensure everything was moving nicely.

front end then built back up and out for a road test to give it a good run before handing keys back to a happy customer who had originally thought the engine was toast 😁

vauxhall corsa 🚗

radiator replacement 💦

customer called after noticing coolant dropping every day, vehicle was pressure tested and found a slight leak from bottom corner of the radiator.

old one removed and replaced then refilled with fresh coolant/water mixture and coolant system bled to remove any air built up in the system

vauxhall corsa 1.2L puretech

timing belt replacement

customer called as they wanted preventative maintenance done, lucky they did as somehow the exhaust camshaft was a tooth out of time somehow.

engine timed up properly and timing belt swapped over. few oil leaks that were cured with the new gaskets also.

a reminder that these engines are very prone to the belts breaking up and either stripping teeth or blocking the oil pickup, both causing severe engine damage, get it checked before it’s too late.

I’m yet to hear a quote that beats my price,
for £550 you will get:
• new timing belt
• new tensioner and idler pulley
• crankshaft oil seal
• rocker cover gasket
• sump removed, oil strainer and sump cleaned then resealed
• water pump stretch belt
• fresh oil filter and specific wet belt oil
• intake manifold gaskets
• timing inspection cover gasket

other places are charging at least £8/900 for all of this so to me that sounds like a bargain 👀.

peugeot 3008 🚗

clutch and flywheel replacement

customer called as they had the vehicle checked out for juddering while idling at another garage. this garage then proceeded to replace the timing belt and charge an arm and a leg which also never cured the problem so then advised on clutch and flywheel replacement.

I arrived and after one press of the clutch was able to determine it was the flywheel causing the judder.

dropped gearbox and removed old clutch and flywheel to find metal shavings jammed in between the 2 sections of the flywheel. aswell as that the release bearing guide tube was damaged badly and also got replaced.

all built back up with fresh oil and new bolts torqued to spec before handing keys back over to a happy customer 👍🏽

vw caddy 🚗

master cylinder replacement and clutch pedal repair

customer called as they had broken down while camping at loch venechar. problem was clutch pedal going straight to floor and not getting any gears.

so on the phone I went to the mighty Tayside Recovery Kinross to get the vehicle recovered to the house so i could get a better understanding of what was happening.

after a bit of digging i found the master cylinder to be faulty and the clutch pedal spring had dropped due to locating tab on the back of pedal being snapped.

clutch pedal was removed with master cylinder still attached and repaired with new master cylinder, pedal section and spring before putting back on the car and bleeding the clutch system.

can is now getting all gears and driving nicely ready for collection tomorrow afternoon 👍🏽

clutch replacement

new customer had vehicle checked at a nearby garage and was quoted a rather large sum to replace the clutch, i managed to beat it by a few hundred and save the lad some money.

subframe dropped out to remove gearbox and swap the clutch over with a fresh one.

unfortunately the exhaust flexi section snapped while refitting the exhaust so had to replace a section of exhaust before getting it built back up and handing the keys back over 👍🏽

customer recently bought this car and wanted to give it a sportier look so decided to fit a full body kit.
