𝐈𝐒 𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐒 𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐋𝐋𝐘 𝐖𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐖𝐀𝐍𝐓 𝐓𝐎 𝐁𝐄 𝐃𝐎𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐍𝐄𝐗𝐓 𝟏𝟎 𝐘𝐄𝐀𝐑𝐒?
It's Sunday evening.
You've had two days off, but somehow it doesn't feel like you've had a break.
And already, that familiar feeling is creeping in.
Monday morning. Back to work. Here we go again.
Another five days of doing something you've completely lost interest in.
You used to enjoy your job. Or at least you didn't mind it.
But somewhere along the way, things changed.
The enthusiasm disappeared. The Sunday evening dread started. And now you're just working for the weekend.
Sound familiar?
Here's a question worth asking yourself...
If you won enough money tomorrow to pay your bills for the next year, would you still turn up for work on Monday?
If the answer is a resounding NO, perhaps it's time to seriously consider a different career.
HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT BECOMING A DRIVING INSTRUCTOR?
Think about spending your working day helping people achieve something they've been looking forward to for years.
Teaching someone a skill they'll use for the rest of their life.
Seeing their confidence grow, watching them improve and sharing that moment when they finally pass their driving test.
And if you choose to work for yourself, having much more say over how you organise your working week.
It takes training, dedication and effort to qualify. But it could be the start of a career you actually look forward to.
Because life's too short to spend every Sunday dreading Monday.

𝐅𝐄𝐃 𝐔𝐏 𝐖𝐈𝐓𝐇 𝐘𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐉𝐎𝐁?

Same old routine. Same old frustrations. Same old feeling that you're working your life away for someone else.

You get up every morning, drag yourself into work and spend the day watching the clock.

You're fed up with being told what to do.

Fed up with someone else deciding when you work, when you can take time off and how much you're worth.

And the worst part?

You know you'll be doing exactly the same thing next week. Next month. Maybe even next year.

Unless you decide to change something.

SO MAYBE IT'S TIME YOU TOOK CONTROL OF YOUR WORKING LIFE.

Have you ever considered becoming a driving instructor?

Train to become a qualified driving instructor and you could build a career where YOU decide your working hours, manage your own diary and have the freedom to be your own boss.

No more asking permission to take a day off.

No more working to make someone else's business successful.

Just the opportunity to build something for yourself, doing a job that genuinely helps people.

Of course, changing careers takes commitment. But staying in a job you hate has a cost too.

The question is, how much longer are you prepared to put up with it?

Thinking about a career as a driving instructor?

To qualify as a DVSA Approved Driving Instructor, candidates must complete three stages:

ADI Part 1 tests theory knowledge and hazard perception.

ADI Part 2 assesses driving ability.

ADI Part 3 assesses the ability to teach a real pupil.

After passing Part 1, candidates must complete the remaining qualification process within the required two-year period. Part 2 and Part 3 are each limited to three attempts during that qualifying period.

A useful training tip is to plan the entire journey before booking Part 1. Consider the time needed for study, practical driver development, instructional training and test availability.

Passing Part 1 quickly is only valuable when there is a realistic plan for Parts 2 and 3.

Good driving instructor training should develop each stage as part of one connected programme rather than treating the tests as unrelated hurdles.

Training Tips

ADI Part 1 is more demanding than the standard learner theory test. It assesses whether a potential driving instructor has the depth of knowledge required to explain safe driving to other people.

The multiple-choice section contains 100 questions across four categories. Candidates need an overall score of at least 85 and must also achieve at least 20 out of 25 in every category. The hazard perception pass mark is 57 out of 75.

A common mistake is memorising answers without developing a deeper understanding of the subject.

A better approach is to study regularly, use official DVSA materials and connect the theory to real situations encountered while driving. Ask yourself not only what the correct answer is, but why it is correct and how you would explain it to a learner.

That deeper understanding will also support Parts 2 and 3.

Is Becoming a Driving Instructor Right for You?

Becoming a driving instructor can provide the opportunity to build a flexible, self-employed career while helping people gain a skill that can change their independence, employment opportunities and everyday lives.

The personal satisfaction can be significant. In the DVSA’s 2025 survey, 91.4% of approved driving instructors said the role gave them a sense of personal accomplishment.

However, it should not be viewed as a quick or easy career change. The qualification involves three separate tests, financial investment, regular practice and a serious commitment to developing both driving and teaching skills.

Before starting your training, consider whether you enjoy working closely with people, can remain patient under pressure and are prepared to keep learning after qualifying.

The best driving instructors are not simply good drivers. They are professional coaches who can adapt their communication and help different people learn safely.

Great review from Omer: After failed my Adi part 3 test first time with previous company I have realised they not proving enough information, after I have met Kevin from Elite driving school in Hull, I have then decided to switch schools to elite. He tought me everything I know, he has stick by me, trained me well, got me to understand how to teach pupils, he's definitely has lot of knowledge under he's belt, after he's Adi training, not only I pass my Adi part 3 test in second attempt I have scored 47 Grade (A) pass. I would highly recommend Kevin as trainer.
Thanks a lot Kevin.

Is Your Phone Putting Your Job at Risk?

The student’s web forums have a section about learning to drive. And you don’t need to be Derren Brown to know most of the posts are negative. But I was shocked at how many posts spoke about driving instructors using their phones while at work.

Every time your phone bleeps, pings or rings you might get mentally stressed because you can’t do anything while on a lesson. But curiosity grips you and you take a peek at the screen, or even answer the phone.

Sometimes instructors can’t handle the pressure of not looking at the phone, even though they know they shouldn’t. But your students are watching, and they know it’s illegal.

From the desk of the DVSA:
‘As an ADI, you’re training the next generation of safe drivers. So it’s important that you lead by example and put your phone away during driving lessons.
Using a hand-held phone whilst driving is a huge safety risk and, from 1 March 2017, the penalty for drivers caught using mobile phones doubled.

The impact on you
If you’re supervising a learner driver then these rules apply to you too. Check your phone during a lesson and you’ll now get 6 points and have to pay a £200 fine. We can remove you from the ADI register if you get 6 points on your licence. This could cost you your job as a driving instructor.’

What’s so important?
A missed call could be a new inquiry for lessons, or a student with a question. But that call or text must wait until you’re out of the car.

The landscape has changed for instructors since the COVID lock downs, and if you’re like most instructors, your phone never stops ringing with new inquiries. But today the most common question we’re asked is about availability, when it used to be about price pre COVID.

Even though you’re booked solid, and there’s no room left in your diary for new starters, you still feel compelled to call them back. There’s a little voice in the back of your head that urges you to call them. If nothing else it’s good customer service and business practice. You know if you get into the habit of not returning calls, one day the phone might stop ringing.

But that call or text can be returned when you finish work, or you can automate a process to manage those inquiries 24/7, so you forget about it.

Automation is changing the world, and customers can get answers to questions about driving lesson availability, and prices etc in seconds without picking up the phone.

So, if you value your licence, your job, or even your personal time at the end of the day let automation handle the enquires and even take the bookings.

For just £20 a month (less than the price of 6 take out coffees), you can forget about the customer inquiries knowing they’re handled professionally. Click here for more details.

So, how much longer will these busy times last?
When we have enough instructors to cope with the back log of learners from COVID, and the DVSA eventually bring the test wait time to a couple of weeks, the industry will return to the way it was pre COVID.

But how long that will take, well your guess is as good as mine. However, now is the perfect time to leverage automation, ensuring you can handle the current demand without burning out.

Kind Regards
Kev

No points…

There’s a common safe place for driving instructors: Being busy.

We’re supposed to give you a pass because you were full on, all day.

You were frantically moving from one lesson to another.

You never paused to catch your breath, and now you’re exhausted.

But there are no points for busy.

You get points for successful lesson planning.

You get points for learning new methods - not doing just the same old things.

You get points for being efficient and managing risk.

You get points for strategies that develops your students knowledge and skills.

You get points for doing work that matters. That moves you forward.

That gets you a better overall score. And that makes you more attractive to customers and earns you a higher income.
