June - Men’s Mental Health Awareness
727,000 per year
60,600 per month
14,000 per week
1,990 per day
83 per hour
1.4 per minute
That is how many men we lose to su***de - with male su***de representing 75% of all su***des. (WHO statistics)
These could be men going through divorces, men who just lost their job, men who just got out of prison - or it could be men with a happy family, a big home and their dream job.
For the men in the group who are struggling - please reach out for help. Despite how it feels, everyone in your life would rather have you around while you fight your battles rather than hearing about your struggles from a loved one at your funeral.
If you think one of your mates is struggling, please reach out to them - just like my mates reached out to me when it mattered the most.
For those of us who work/ have worked in the emergency services whether that is ambulance service, fire service, police, RNLI or in the military / prison service - we often see death/trauma on a daily basis sometimes in horrific circumstances. That is the careers we chose. But seeking support is not a sign of weakness, it is a sign of strength.
You all work in a sector which exists to help people. It is what you love, and what you take pride in. But if you are not around, who is going to do that?
