We recently had this Lexus in for rear brake pads and discs.
A question we often get asked is:
“Do I really need the brake discs as well as the pads?”
The answer is — not always.
If the discs are still within specification and in good condition, pads alone may be perfectly fine. But when the discs are worn below the manufacturers specifications, cracked, or heat-spotted, fitting new pads onto worn discs can lead to:
* Reduced braking performance
* Brake vibration or noise
* Uneven pad wear
* Premature wear of the new pads
In cases like this Lexus, the rear discs had reached the point where replacing both pads and discs was the safest and most cost-effective option long term.
Cutting corners where your brakes are concerned is never a good idea.
