More Maverick progress...... wanted to get all the painted bits sorted which to be fair was a bit of a mission.... had all the old powder coating blasted off the frame and swingarm to start with, I'm not really a big fan of the moulded smooth headstock look so decided to remove the moulding...... not as easy as I thought, John had done a good job of it with brazed in plates etc so not a case of just digging a bit of filler out......😁 also some of the casting had been ground away too so it was a bit time consuming building all that back up and re-instating the original shape, happy with the results now......
The rear suspension had been lowered by adding threaded bosses into the swingarm, but original mounts had been put back on top to raise it up again at some stage so all that has now been removed and were back to the low setting again.....😎 forgot to take pics of that though.....🙄
The rear mudguard had also been changed along the way so had lost the rib detail on the side [ John told me the old one had cracked so another was welded over the top of the original] I found a suitable replacement and it all looks good with the struts now, also found a nice quality cats eye rear light to replace the later addition plastic one that was on there and added plenty of wiring clips to keep things tidy under there, the extra ones are for the running lights which will be going back where they were originally rather than on the end of the swingarm....
Oil tank and battery tray were also in colour so a quick test fit of them was in order.....
Colour choice was a bit tricky, John had given me the original front mudguard for the bike which was still in the original colour but was a bit dull and washed out, understandable after 40+ years on the planet..... anyway the lads at LA L.A Custom Coatings did a bit of experimenting with different ratios of base and candy coats and have come up with something that's a really good match so chuffed with that......
Just looking forward to getting some nice coloured stuff back now all the donkey work is done....
