European Union customs: what’s changing on November 1st and how to be ready

In July 2026, the European Union began to roll out its most significant customs reforms in decades.
The next deadline is November 1, when Product Identifiers (PIDs) become mandatory for distance sale goods or shipments to non-VAT-registered recipients (also known as e-commerce or B2C shipments). A new Union handling fee is also expected

So another layer of Bureaucracy, and more cost to you the customer, in short a Stealth Tax for EU citizens and more cost and workload for us.

In layman's terms, each part we ship has a HS code this is a worldwide code relating to the individual part in the shipment to identify to customs the identity and use of the part and any taxation that may apply to it, the EU now also want product identifier codes and manufacturers product identification codes for each part also to be logged on the customs invoice, so in short, that's three codes that now must accompany each item in the consignment !

This applies to private individuals who are not VAT registered, so this just demonstrates the importance of this process as if you are a VAT registered business, the codes are not required, which shows what a complete waste of time this is.

My work brings many benefits, one being that I get to see some really nice cars, expensive ones and rare ones, but every now and again one just takes your eye and gets you interested again, this beautiful Alpine 610A has been one of those cars, 3.0 turbo V6, rear engine machine, absolutely stunning from every angle, suffering from leaking AC , it's compressor and condenser rad both suffered from age and decay, so brand new TRS sanden compressor, pipes, condenser, filter, pressure switch, expansion valve the works, bringing it all back to life to complement a stunning restoration of quite a unique car , one of 67 in right hand drive so I'm told, how true I don't know, what I do know is I see more Ferrari's than I do Alpine 610's and I know which I would prefer to own on a £ per smile ratio...

Back again... Pressure switch issue...

Time of year, if it's yellow or green.. compressor failure, broken reed valve, steel and aluminium don't make good bed fellows, blocked filters don't help, once the system gets air flow then we are so cold it's fogging the windows up... Electric wires bared through burning out switches, pipes repaired after being bogged up and holed from a loose breather pipe... Stuck expansion valve, needed a replacement that turns into a new evaporator because the brass fittings used by cat are so soft that over tightening in assembly means they won't undo, pulling the threads and the flats are so soft you round the flats off trying to undo... If it was as simple as shooting a bit of gas in...

Jaguar XJS 4.0 1995 up from London to us, numerous places have been shooting gas in to this chaps car without resolving the issues, usual culprit on these last or the line cars, leaking Ranco pressure switch, NLA , plus the pipes are prone to rot, so I do this solution, a front to back rubber hose, with pressure switch that can be adapted to the factory wiring with a pair of terminal pliers, routed out of the way of the extreme heat of the exhaust, maybe not to the purists delight but if you want your AC working on your XJS then the choice is looking factory fresh to please one person who looks under the bonnet or driving in a chilled environment...
