🚨 BIG things are happening at Cranfield! 🚧🌊
The next phase of our winter project has officially arrived — and we’re already getting stuck in! 💪
The blocks have arrived today, ready for the next stage of our ongoing improvements at Cranfield Caravan Park.
We’re always reinvesting in the park and looking for ways to make things better for our customers. 🏡❤️

Did you know? ✈️ During the Second World War, the fields around Cranfield and Greencastle were transformed into a major military airfield.

Known as RAF Greencastle, the site was used by the US Army Air Force from 1943 as a training base for B-24 Liberator gunners. Hundreds of acres of farmland were taken over, with runways, concrete buildings and other military infrastructure appearing almost overnight.

Imagine the impact on nearby Kilkeel – a small fishing town suddenly filled with American uniforms, unfamiliar accents and the sounds of Glenn Miller! 🎷

The local community soon got to know the airmen, with children reportedly swapping potato farls and eggs for chewing gum. 🥔🍬

The airfield wasn't the only military presence in the area. US troops and a Welsh regiment were also stationed nearby, with large guns and tanks being tested in the Mournes.

Today, much of the military infrastructure has disappeared – but look closely and there are still clues to this fascinating chapter in Mourne history. Some of the Mourne Walls around Cranfield are said to have been built using concrete from the former runways, leaving a lasting reminder of the wartime landscape. 🏞️
