Meet Rich 😄

Rich is the face of Hometyre in Keswick and across North Cumbria, and for 8 years he’s been helping customers throughout the Lakes keep safely on the move. ⛰️

Before joining Hometyre, Rich worked as a recovery truck driver, attending breakdowns across the region and supporting the police with vehicle recoveries. That experience gave him the ability to stay calm under pressure, communicate clearly, and help people through stressful situations — skills that still benefit his customers every day.

Now, instead of unpredictable shift work and emergency call-outs, Rich spends his days helping customers at home, at work, and sometimes in some very scenic Lake District locations!

Whether it’s fitting tyres on a driveway in Keswick, helping a holidaymaker stuck in a rural car park, or carrying out a puncture repair for a local customer, Rich is known for his friendly nature, professionalism, and reliable service!!

One of the things customers appreciate most is the convenience of having tyre fitting brought directly to them — no waiting around at a garage, no disruption to the day, just expert service where it’s needed.

After 8 years with the brand, Rich continues to take great pride in supporting motorists across North Cumbria and delivering the kind of personal service that keeps customers coming back time and time again. 🛞

Your trailer or horsebox tyres might still have good tread, but that doesn’t mean they’re in good condition. Tyres naturally degrade over time, especially when left unused for long periods. This can reduce grip and reliability just when you need them most. Before your next journey, take a few minutes to check not just the tread and pressure, but also the age.

Head to the TyreSafe website to download the Ultimate Guide to Trailer and
Horsebox Tyres and learn how tyre age can affect your safety on the road. https://www.tyresafe.org/resources/

Have you ever seen that little horseshoe-shaped light with an exclamation mark pop up on your dashboard? That’s your Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), and it’s one of the most critical safety features in your vehicle! ⚠️

While it might be tempting to ignore it, that light is trying to save you money, time, and potentially your life. Here is why paying attention to your TPMS is so important:

🛡️ Enhanced Safety: Driving on underinflated tyres drastically increases the risk of dangerous blowouts and makes steering and braking much more difficult. TPMS alerts you before a catastrophic tyre failure occurs.

⛽ Improved Fuel Efficiency: Did you know that correct tyre pressure can improve your gas mileage by up to 3%? Your TPMS ensures your tyres have the optimal balance of resistance, saving you money at the pump!

🛞 Extended Tyre Life: Tyres that are properly inflated wear more evenly. By maintaining the right pressure, you extend the life of your tyres and reduce the frequency of expensive replacements.

🍃 Environmental Benefits: Better fuel efficiency and longer-lasting tyres mean a smaller ecological footprint and lower emissions.

What should you do if the light comes on?
Don’t panic! Safely pull over and check your tyres for obvious damage. Use a tyre pressure gauge to check all four tyres against the recommended levels (usually found on the driver’s side door jamb). Inflate them to the correct pressure, and the light should turn off after driving a few miles. If it stays on, it might be time to have a professional check your sensors.

Make it a habit to check your tyre pressure manually at the change of every season, as temperature drops can cause pressure to decrease!

Has your TPMS light ever saved you from a flat tyre? Let us know in the comments below! 👇

Cold weather can cause tyre pressures to drop and the air in your tyres to contract ❄️ and that dreaded symbol to appear on your dashboard ❗

If you’re topping up your tyres more often, it could be down to winter temperatures revealing small pressure losses.

A quick check now can help keep everything running smoothly! If you think you may have an issue, you can call us on 📞 0333 444 5454 or book online!

Tyre tech alert! 🚨

We first covered the Michelin UPTIS air-less tyre back in February 2022... now it’s inching closer to the UK market!!

MOT FAILURES… 🚨 Be Honest!

How many of you have failed an MOT, or at least had an advisory, because of your TYRES? 🛞

Here’s the reality... 1 in 5 MOT failures in the UK are down to tyre defects. 😲

That’s thousands of drivers every year caught out by something that could have been avoided with a simple tyre check. The most common issues are:

• Tread depth below the legal limit of 1.6mm
• Bulges, cuts or cracks in the sidewall
• Exposed cords or uneven wear

It’s not just about the annoyance of having to take your car for a retest... it’s about SAFETY!! ⚠️

Tyres in poor condition can:
• Increase stopping distances
• Reduce grip and handling
• Lead to blowouts at speed

This October, Tyre Safety Month, is the perfect reminder to check your tyres before they put you at risk. A two-minute inspection could prevent an MOT failure... and more importantly, keep you, and others around you, safe on the road!
