I have owned this car for the last 3-4 years and it been a fantastic car, I’m only parting ways as I have another car on the way. Very tidy throughout and engine is absolutely perfect.

1998 WRX STi Type R

Stunning rust free condition - 95k genuine miles. 10 months MOT.

Recently serviced and ready to go, this stunning example of an STi type R is as good as it looks in the pictures. Imported from Japan by a Subaru dealership in 1999 and complete with full UK service records confirming mileage and adherence to maintenance schedules.

Only 3 enthusiast UK owners in the last 20 years. Very well looked after and cared for example always garaged and meticulously maintained.

Bodywork work is fantastic with all usual GC8 areas of concern in perfect condition - rear arches, sills, bottom of wings are all perfect and rust free. Paintwork is stunning.

Version V front bumper, headlights, grill, rear wing and interior. Seats are in excellent condition with no collapsed bolsters, burns, tears or signs of wear. DCCD works correctly and there are no warning lights on. Original Subaru mats in perfect condition.

Rare lightweight Ray alloys in as new condition with new Bridgestone Potenza tyres all round.

Kakimoto exhaust system with 3” cat replacement down pipe being the only modification.

Fantastic amounts of power for a standard vehicle running standard boost - pulls strongly in every gear with loads of turbo boost - no running issues from engine or transmission. Engine doesn’t use any oil or water nor does it leak any.

OrIginal DCCD gearbox is tight and precise and R180 rear differential doesn’t make any unwanted noises.

Paintwork is blemish free and absolutely perfect throughout - as good as it looks in the pictures, probably even better!

The 132bhp 1.6 CVH turbo engine performs faultlessly and boosts smoothly right the way through the rev range. Idles correctly and starts first turn of the key both hot or cold. Doesn’t use any oil or water and certainly doesn’t leak any fluids. No smoke out the back, rattles or issues of any kind. The attention to detail and originality is outstanding as can be seen in the pictures of the engine bay. Surprisingly impressive and powerful for a standard vehicle.

Unsurprisingly - due to the renewal of every suspension, steering and braking component - this RS not only looks but also performs like a new car with absolute no issues of any kind. Drives in a perfectly straight line, grips the road well with everything feeling nice and taught.

Gearbox has also been fully stripped down, all bearings replaced and the cases vapour blasted - changes gear perfectly with no noises or notchyness going into gear. New 3 piece clutch kit and clutch cable. Gear linkage has also been overhauled and new bushes fitted.

Inside the correct early spec interior is in fantastic ‘as new’ condition. Even the head-cloth has been renewed at great expense. The Recaros are absolutely amazing with no signs of wear or any damage, collapsed bases or any sagging. Rest of interior such as the rear seats, parcel shelf, door-cards, carpet etc is undamaged and just perfect. Original Ford stereo and Ford mats. Original spare wheel tool kit.

Underneath/chassis - a lot of components still have their original Ford manufacturer stickers on and the whole underside really is a joy to behold. Every single bolt or brackets is either new or reconditioned and zinc plated. No signs of corrosion or even any surface rust - I’d go as far to say it’s probably better than new!

Bodywork is excellent and the iconic Subaru Rally blue contrasts beautifully with the gold STi wheels. Free from any damage, dents, rust, scratches or obvious blemishes.

Brakes and suspension are all standard and in great mechanical condition throughout. No knocks or rattles, everything feels tight and operates correctly. Matching Dunlop tyres with very good tread.

Original and unmodified STi RA engine in perfect running order. Very smooth at idle with no unwanted noises even from cold. Boosts strongly through the rev range with no hesitations or stutters. No oil or coolant leaks. 3" cat back Fujitsu performance exhaust system (fitted prior to import in Japan).

Original STi RA close ratio gearbox in great working order. Smooth in operation both up and down the gears. No crunchy synchromeshes, noises or leaks. DCCD can be seen operating correctly. R180 rear diff with no leaks or noises. STi short shift gear linkage. Clutch is perfect.

Interior comes standard with V3 manufacturers champion insignia on front seats and special edition 491/555 plaque.
Front seats are in amazing condition for a 19 year car with no collapse to bolsters, sagging, rips or tares. Opening STi RA roof hatch. Electric windows. Central locking. Original Subaru floor mats. JVC stereo system. Discreet boost gauge and turbo timer (fitted prior to import in Japan).
