🔨 The Maid of Baltimore – Refurbishment Update

As we progress with the refurbishment of The Maid of Baltimore, we’re occasionally uncovering a few hidden surprises along the way!

While carefully scraping back the paint on the transom, we discovered an area of rotten timber that needed some attention. Having removed the affected timber and replaced it with new, we’re now carefully scarfing in each section to create a strong, stable transom.

Once the work is complete, we’ll sand everything back, fill and fair the surface, ready for painting. The aim is to leave a beautifully smooth finish, with no visible trace of the repairs beneath the fresh paint!

It’s all part of giving this lovely boat the care and attention she deserves. ⚓

⚓ A New Project Arrives at Haines Boatyard ⚓

We’re delighted to welcome a rather special new project into the workshop — a Fairey Huntress.

As you can see, we’ve made a start by stripping back her bottom, revealing plenty of history and giving us a much better look at what we’re working with underneath.

There’s a lot of work ahead, but that’s all part of the excitement with a project like this. 🛠️

We’ll be sharing lots more as the project progresses, so keep an eye out for updates from the Haines workshop.

The yard is a hive of activity today including a RIB repair.

Today we're repairing a split tube seam, carefully aligning and clamping the material while the adhesive cures to restore the tube's strength and watertight seal.

Another boat one step closer to getting back on the water.

Steering issues? Time for an upgrade. ⚓

Today we're replacing a worn steering helm and cable to restore smooth, reliable control at the helm. Over time, corrosion, wear, and stiffness can make steering difficult and unsafe, so preventative maintenance like this is essential.
