A great way to end last week, with a fabulous test pass for Karthiga. A perfect example of not giving up during your test. Convinced that she'd failed, she still stayed focused and completed the test, with the examiner wondering why she was so worried!

Remember: Examiners aren't looking for perfection, they want to see safe drivers who know how to use the road. That mistake that you may think had cost you your test may not be as bad as you thought!

And thank you Karthiga for the lovely review too! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

That's now three ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ reviews from all of my pupils who passed their tests last week!

If you know anyone who is looking for a driving instructor in the Ipswich area, you know where to direct them!

Just time at the end of the weekend to reflect on this last week, and what a week it was! Three driving tests, and three superb first-time test passes! Congratulations to Rafaels, Harry and Ethan, and as always many thanks for the wonderful reviews! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ It's been a pleasure guys, and safe driving out there.

It was a really early start this week - 6am pick up on Monday for the first test slot of the day! But it's results like this that make it all worthwhile.

A fantastic drive with just one driving fault registered - and that was before he'd even left the parking space in the test centre: An understandably nervous left foot slipping off the clutch, stalling. 😂 But after a deep breath, a faultless drive!

What do these signs mean? 🤔

If you came across this scene whilst driving, what would be your thought process? Would you think "60mph"? Because that's the national speed limit isn't it?

Sadly, that's why a disproportionately high percentage of incidents resulting in serious injury or loss of life involving young, newly qualified drivers happens on higher speed roads, often rural, just like this. Lack of experience, overconfidence, peer pressure, showing off, excess speed...

In 2024, roughly half of the incidents resulting in death or serious injury for young drivers happened on rural roads, and they were 5 times more likely than in an urban setting.

And most often, no other vehicle was involved. A split-second misjudgement. A bend that tightens. A blind crest in the road. Darkness with no street lighting. Anything. No time to correct, no time to avoid.

Those signs are NOT telling you that it's ok to drive at 60 mph. They are telling you that a previous speed restriction has ended. The legal speed limit does then default to the national speed limit, but YOU are the only one who can then choose what speed is sensible and appropriate for the road you are on.

Read the road ahead of you. What can't you see around the next bend? Are you prepared to react to whatever may occur in front of you? Who or what is coming the other way? How fast are they going?

Rarely do the answers to these questions mean that 60 mph is remotely appropriate in an environment like the one in the photo. Think, and be safe.

Yesterday. What a day! Four seasons in one day with the weather, from perfect blue sky to a full-on sleet/hail storm for about 10 minutes!

And then two driving tests back to back - with two amazing first-time passes! Lovely feedback in the reviews as well. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The 'gap in the learning process' described in one of these reviews is pretty common at the moment too: Many people started taking lessons pre-Covid, and then the huge upheaval caused by lockdowns and restrictions meant that many learners stopped their lessons and never came back to them... until now! It doesn't matter how long you have stepped away from driving for, or the reasons why. I'll get you back up to speed and feeling confident behind the wheel.

The DVSA have announced dates for further changes to the practical driving test booking process.

For any of my current pupils, I will be in touch with you directly to discuss what this means for us.

We’re putting learners in control of their car driving test bookings 🚘

If you’ve got a booking or you’ll be looking for a test soon, make a note of these dates 📅

31 March 2026 – only 2 changes can be made to a booking

12 May 2026 – only learners are allowed to book a test and make changes

9 June 2026 – learners can move their booked test only to nearby centres

By changing who can book car and change driving tests, we’re aiming to reduce the re-selling of driving tests, giving the power back to learners 💪

This is why I do what I do. We have to try and get through to young drivers as early as possible. One choice, one bad call, can change everything.

Two young lives lost in seconds.

An 18 year old has been sentenced to 14 months in prison after admitting causing death by careless driving.

The car she was driving left the road on a right hand bend and hit a tree.

Front seat passenger Harrison Carter, 18, and rear seat passenger George Stephenson, 17, both died at the scene.

Data recovered from the vehicle showed the car was travelling at over 75 mph just four seconds before the crash. Investigators found no mechanical faults and concluded the collision was caused by speed and inexperience.

She had only held her full driving licence for 3 months.

She has also been banned from driving for three years, five months and two weeks and must pass an extended driving test before driving again.

Two families are now living with a loss that will never go away.

Passing your driving test is not the end of learning to drive.

It is only the beginning.

Experience takes years.
Judgement takes time.
Speed removes both in seconds.

Note: Image blurred out of respect for the families involved.

Good morning from a very foggy Suffolk! 🌁

So how many of you have already been out there this morning, practically invisible to others on the road? 🫥

We're getting quite a few days like this at the moment, and I see an insane amount of drivers out there with either no lights at all, or simply DRLs (daytime running lights) on their vehicles.

🚗 More modern cars often have a whole range of 'driver aid' technology, including automatic headlights. But this only works by detecting 'brightness', and will usually not activate dipped headlights in fog.

🚗 This will have you driving around with only your DRLs illuminated, which are small lights on the front of the car, but there will be nothing on the rear.

🚗 In older cars where everything is manual, if you are not consciously thinking about the conditions, you will have no lights on at all.

‼️ In fog, your headlights aren't about helping you see, it's CAN YOU BE SEEN?!

💯 If you can't see beyond 100m, put your fog lights on too. Again, fog lights are not there to help you see further, it's to enable others to see you through the murk!

💭 Please, take a moment to think...

✅️ Is your car configured for the conditions?
✅️ Can you be seen?
❌️ If you are reliant on technology in a car to activate a function for you, you've already become too complacent. Think for yourself - check!

Be safe, be seen.

Please like and share! Trying to improve safety on our roads for all of us, one driver at a time. 👍

The end of another hugely successful week, and another ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ review!

And I really like this one, because I feel it needs a little clarifcation:

It says that I thought the pupil was ready before they did. This could suggest that I've pushed them to take the test before they felt fully prepared. I would never do that.

The reality is that this pupil had become an extremely capable driver, and I could see that they were more than ready to take the driving test. They didn't feel quite as confident - but that was all it was: confidence.

I will never take a pupil to a driving test unless I am 100% sure that they are ready for it.
✅ I want them to be safe on the road
✅ It's my name on the car
✅ It's my licence in the window
✅ It's my reputation

And that's exactly what I told them: We wouldn't be going to that Test Centre if you weren't ready!
