Knock knock who’s there? 🤔

Not this E92 M3’s rod bearings after this BMTEK TLC 😍

When BMW designed their best sounding V8 engine the S65 they unfortunately overlooked the big end bearing clearance tolerances as tight manufacturing oil clearance tolerances restrict proper hydrodynamic wedge lubrication during high-RPM usage or before the oil reaches optimal operating temperature leading to excessive bearing wear 😬

BMW’s original factory clearance is notoriously tight (roughly 0.027–0.076 mm). ACL uses a performance oriented tri-metal copper-lead alloy to construct its bearings with a measurements on the larger side of the factory tolerances, yielding about 0.038–0.050 mm of clearance to safely fix the factory tightness 🫡

Proper cars need proper maintenance 💪🏻

Check out this stunning M340i that came to us requiring some essential and preventative maintenance 🔧

As is common with a lot of BMW differentials the input and output shaft seals can leak leaving oil free to spread everywhere except where it’s needed! Not to worry we removed the rear differential on this one and replaced all 3 seals with new genuine BMW parts at the same time as putting some fresh genuine BMW G4 hypoid axle oil inside it… this limited slip differential should now keep this bus moving for many years to come 🚎

Having the rear differential overhauled meant it just made sense to finish off the xdrive service by servicing the front differential using genuine BMW G2 hypoid axle oil in the front differential and genuine BMW DTF1 fluid in the transfer box 💦📦

The puzzle wasn’t complete until we carried out genuine ZF 8 speed transmission service! As always using only genuine ZF components and BMW’s oil balancing procedure to carry out this essential transmission maintenance ⚙️
