Had a fantastic day with Jez Platt playing on the Rhodes and the Yamaha. Love the different vibes Jez can get from them, there's such a difference between the real thing and a midi keyboard it blows me away every time when we get such good players putting them through their paces ~Steve

Here's a few gear pics from a 4-piece jazz recording and filming session I had the pleasure of engineering this week. We did things a little different to our usual ways of using multiple live rooms and vocal booth as everyone was in the same space this time. It was quite refreshing to work this way as I had to think more strategically about where everyone positioned themselves in the room and what microphones I chose to use to tame some of that pesky bleed.

I’m glad I chose to use a pair of Warm Audio WA-19’s on the piano as they worked great for capturing the attack of the hammers and producing a full piano sound without a load of unwanted rumble. It was also nice to have Joe, our new placement student, with me in the session to provide a helping hand. ~ Jack

I've thoroughly enjoyed going on this creative journey with 13-year-old Iris Danbury so far. Her talent and flair are something to behold. It's great when you have an artist come through the studio that is not only excited to be working on their own material, but also trusts me as a producer to get it to where it needs to be sonically to fit with other current songs within their niche.

Thrilled to say we've just finished mastering song number 3 as well; a slight change of pace without any compromise in her usual flair or talent. Follow Iris, share her content, and add encouraging comments because she deserves it. The LOCK Magazine article in the c0mments presents an exclusive first airing of her debut music video so be sure to check that out. I've also just been told that Iris will be live on BBC Leeds this Tuesday at 12.15.

Who doesn’t love a bit of funk? It was great to have James Curgenven Music and his band in the studio last weekend to lay down some seriously groovy tracks. We used both our live rooms for this session enabling us to isolate the horns section from the rhythm section to get some great separation and prevent any bleed between the two.

I also got to put my Warm Audio WA-47 FET to the test on James’ tenor saxophone. I love this microphone as it’s a great all rounder and worked really well thanks to its smooth midrange and clean top end. ~Jack

Awesome couple of days with Hospital Food tracking a massive 15 tracks! Really great to lay down all of the tracks as a band then take the time to focus on vocals and lead breaks where needed. Big fan of the Tarian drum shells and heavy Hive Snare too, so easy to get a great tone from. ~Steve
