We’re putting learners in control of their car driving test bookings 🚘

If you’ve got a booking or you’ll be looking for a test soon, make a note of these dates 📅

31 March 2026 – only 2 changes can be made to a booking

12 May 2026 – only learners are allowed to book a test and make changes

9 June 2026 – learners can move their booked test only to nearby centres

By changing who can book car and change driving tests, we’re aiming to reduce the re-selling of driving tests, giving the power back to learners 💪

We’re making some subtle but meaningful changes to the practical driving test. 🚗

You may have seen that we have been trialling changes to the driving test at 20 driving test centres.

As part of the trial, learners drove on routes containing more high-speed, rural roads during their driving test, where location allowed. Now, we are rolling out the changes to all driving test centres in Great Britain from 24 November 2025.

As well as increasing the amount of time spent on higher-speed roads, we are:

✅ reducing the number of stops during the test from 4 to 3
✅ lowering the frequency of emergency stop exercises from 1 in 3 tests to 1 in 7
✅ adding flexibility to the independent driving segment, allowing it to run for the full duration of the test

These changes are designed to help improve road safety by better replicating the conditions motorists face in the real world. They won’t affect the skills needed to take a driving test.

FIRST TIME PASS

Well done to Zeta who passed her test on the first attempt in Burgess Hill very early this morning. Definitely worth the 6am pick up.

Zeta was being taught by another instructor who was unable to take her to test today so I kindly offered to take her as we have the same car. I did a couple of lessons with her just to get test ready but Zeta and her instructor did the hard work.

FIRST TIME PASS

Another day another pass. This time it was Mati's turn and she passed first time 👏

Mati started learning with me in June and has been a great student, she listens and takes everything on board. A really good confident driver.

Thank you to Mati's mum who also did some extra practice to get ready for test.
