As always, we've been busy. I'm sure I'll be updating the page alot more often from now on, but in the meantime, check this out π (yes, it's a wordy post)
Weve had this little purple nugget in the studio for a few weeks, but for very good reason. Today is my daughter's 17th birthday (I know what your thinking, I look far too youthful to have a 17 year old π΄) and we wanted to surprise her with her own car for her birthday. This lovely little Fiesta ticked alot of boxes, but was in desperate need of some love. We had to work on this at nights, around the day job and between bookings so couldn't dedicate any sort of solid work time to it. But here how it went...
Headlights faded beyond belief, paint full of chemical stains, marring, swirls, scratches and in some areas, contamination from left over polish that had baked into the clear coat. Interior needed a full reset and the trims were totally discoloured and worn. The spare wheel was fitted and the other steel wheels look like they'd been pulled from a swamp.
We started with a full deep clean wash, with a decontamination for tar, glue, fallout etc. After getting through the years of green growth bugs, we pulled it into the studio for a heavy clay treatment to get rid of the embedded bits. Using a Microfibre pad and heavy cutting compound, we cut the paint back and revealed some potential for gloss. Some areas needed wet sanding to remove some defects and some of the damage was too much and ideally needed a respray. But we did what we could with the paint in the time we had and the results were amazing.
We also did a headlight restoration starting with 2000 grit wet sanding, 2500, 3000 and a heavy cut polish, but the plan is to replace them at some point with some better units. Again, a night and day difference and the light output is so much better afterward. Trims were restored back to a fresh factory look.
The wheels were thrown in the bin and replaced with a set of ProLine PXR alloys that we refurbished. Tyres dresses with a ceramic based tyre sealant. Glass polished and deep cleaned before sealing with Angelwax H2GO. We finished the paint with a coat of Soft99 Fusso coat, with the intention of giving it another deep clean and ceramic coating when she passes her test.
Before the big day, we also completed a full service on the engine, with oil, oil filter, air filter, fuel filter and various other bits and bobs to make sure it lasts her for miles to come. (Hopefully fully she's not like me and crashes it into a hedge in the first week of driving π)
