Ben's "fast road spec" na MX5
Our longest build to date! Finally in the testing and snagging stage
Something I've really enjoyed on this build is what I'd call, keeping it classy, everything refurbished and upgraded, but all in black or bare metal, subtle but high quality finish, reminicant of what you'd expect on a high end classic restoration. It's a joy when the customer is on the same page
The car was one of the first in the workshop, after sitting for a couple of years it had suffered the typical mx5 rot
The sills and and inner wheel arches had rotted so everything was cut back and replaced with new metal
The entire suspension and drivetrain was stripped off the car, allowing us to prime and re underseal the entire underside
All of the suspension was sandblasted and powercoated black. New uprated suspension bushes installed all round and all other components refurbished before building back up. The addition of a torsion limited slip differential was a must for handling and chassis rail reinforcement kit to stifern it up. Ben also opted to stiffern the chassis even more by permanently bolting the hard top on
The engine wasn't left out with a repaint of the block, rocker cover and intake, everything cleaned back to new condition with service items such as cambelt, water pump, plugs, seals and gaskets. For modifications the flywheel was changed for a lightened unit, the exhaust manifold was already aftermarket so was heat wrapped to tidy it up.
The engine bay was tidied up, wiring routed neatly and unnecessary components removed, an aluminium radiator and full silicon hose set installed. Finally we fabricated a custom airbox to Ben's spec to house a panel filter and duct air from the skuttle panel area for a true cold air intake, with the added bonus of great induction noise
A single post cannot portray the amount of work that's gone into this car, with Ben being handy on the spanners himself, this project will continue to evolve with upgrades planned already! This work has simply given him a clean rust free base to build on. Can't wait to see it exploring some great driving roads next summer!
