When it turned up at Le Mans in 1950, the French spent a whole day scrutineering it. What have you done? What is this?

Fair question. It runs five carburettors on one V8.

The centre one is the primary, the outer four are secondaries. Very rich on tick over, but as Derek says, it goes okay.

What a way to close the season! 🏁

Final race weekend of the Porsche Carrera Cup and Sprint Challenge at Brands Hatch, and it delivered.

Huge congratulations to Gabe Fairbrother, crowned Sprint Challenge Clubsport Champion 🏆 His car has been cared for here at Revive all season, and we couldn’t be prouder to have played a small part in that title.

And Sid signed off in style, grabbing a podium with 3rd place in the very last race of the year

Thank you to everyone who followed, cheered and shared along the way. Time to rest the engines (for a little while, anyway)

Briggs Cunningham wanted to take an American car to Le Mans in 1950.

He wanted a Cadillac in a Ford. Mr Ford said no. And it had to be a production car, nothing made up.

So he took two Cadillacs instead. One was the pretty car, a standard three speed manual. The other was rebodied by Grumman, the aircraft company that built fighter planes.

That one became Le Monstre.

So what actually is Le Monstre?

Underneath that body is a 1950 Cadillac. Short wheelbase, about four inches shorter than the standard car.

And the engine was the first overhead valve V8 ever to go racing. In 1950 that was a big deal.

Derek explains it all in the workshop - it is fascinating stuff!

Sixteen thousand miles across America. No workshop, no hose, no time.

We asked Derek which bottle he actually kept reaching for.

Bug and Grime. Because, in his words, the bugs out there are ginormous.

He held up the empty bottle to prove it, covered in his own fingerprints, which Pat had already told him off about. Fingerprints on the bottle and on the car.

Sunday morning, someone mentions a breakfast club, and ten minutes with a cloth is the difference between turning up and turning up properly.

So what is the day job? You cannot just race across America for a living.

Derek: well, no, I cannot afford to.

People ask him all the time and he still hasn't got a tidy answer. Car repair. Building cars. Television work. Bespoke builds. Wild things.

In the end he settles on it himself: "I do stuff!"

Best job title we have heard all year.

Most people trailer their race car to the track.

Derek drove his. On the road. Across America.

Lime Rock, Watkins Glen, Virginia, Sebring. A teardrop caravan hitched on the back of the race car - Le Monstre no less - doing big miles in between.

Sixteen thousand miles. Forty five track sessions.

Run what you brung, quite literally.

Sebring story - amazing!

Meet Derek Drinkwater.

His words, not ours: he has got this mad thing about American cars. One in particular.

So he put it in a container, shipped it to New York, and raced it at Lime Rock, Watkins Glen, Virginia and Sebring. Towing a teardrop caravan. Driving the race car on the road between every one of them.

This is where the series starts.
