“My mate says they’re fine…”

We love a bit of friendly advice, but when it comes to your tyres, it’s probably best to ask someone who knows what they’re looking for.

Tread depth, pressures, uneven wear, cracking and damage can all affect how safely your car grips the road.

Not sure about yours? Pop in and let us take a look. No guesswork required.

That little warning light is there for a reason.

If your engine management light comes on, your car has detected a fault. It could be something relatively minor, but it can also be an early warning of a problem that needs attention.

Ignoring it could lead to reduced performance, poor fuel economy or a more expensive repair further down the line.

Our diagnostic equipment can help pinpoint the cause and get you on the right track.

🔧 Engine light on? Book a diagnostic check.

Tyre pressure. Does it really matter? Absolutely.

Correct tyre pressures help your car perform as it should. Too high or too low and you could be affecting grip, braking, tyre wear and fuel efficiency.

Not sure what pressure your tyres should be running at? Pop in and our team will be happy to check them for you.

A quick check now could save you hassle and unnecessary tyre wear later.

Autumn vs your battery... who’s winning?

As the temperature starts to drop, a battery that’s been coping fine through summer can begin to show signs of weakness.

Taking longer to start?
Lights looking a little dim?
Battery getting on a bit?

Don’t wait until the morning your car decides it’s not going anywhere.

If you’re concerned about your battery, give our team a call and get it checked before the colder weather really sets in.

MOT failed on emissions? Don't panic.

An emissions failure doesn't automatically mean you're facing a huge repair bill, but it does mean something isn't working as it should.

The important thing is finding the actual cause rather than replacing parts and hoping for the best.

At Graham Reader, we have the diagnostic equipment and experience to investigate emissions faults, identify the problem and carry out the necessary repairs.

Failed your MOT on emissions? Give us a call and we'll help get you back on the road.

Nail in your tyre? Don't assume you need a new one.

A puncture doesn't automatically mean your tyre needs replacing.

Depending on where the damage is, its size and the overall condition of the tyre, a safe professional repair may be possible.

However, damage too close to the sidewall, a puncture outside the permitted repair area or a tyre that's been driven on while flat could mean replacement is the only safe option.

That's why it's worth getting it properly inspected rather than guessing.

Got a nail or screw in your tyre? Bring it to Graham Reader and we'll check whether it can be safely repaired.

Does your car feel more like a bouncy castle than a smooth ride?

If you're noticing excessive bouncing, dipping when braking, poor handling around corners or your car just doesn't feel as stable as it used to, your shock absorbers could be worn.

Shock absorbers play an important role in keeping your tyres in contact with the road, helping your vehicle remain stable and controlled.

Signs to look out for include:

🔧 Excessive bouncing after bumps
🔧 Nose-diving under braking
🔧 Increased body roll around corners
🔧 Uneven tyre wear
🔧 Knocking or unusual noises from the suspension

If something doesn't feel right, don't ignore it. Our team can inspect your suspension and identify any problems.

Does your air con smell like a wet dog?

That musty, damp smell coming through the vents when you switch your air conditioning on isn't just unpleasant. It could be a sign your air con system needs some attention.

Over time, moisture can build up within the system, creating the perfect environment for bacteria and mould. The result? That unmistakable damp, musty smell being blown straight into the cabin.

A dirty or blocked pollen filter can also contribute to unpleasant odours and reduced airflow.

The good news is, it can be sorted.

If your air con isn't smelling as fresh as it should, get in touch with the team at Graham Reader and we'll take a look.
