👉 SAVING YOUR ENGINE – WHY BELTS MATTER! 👈
We’ve had two very different cambelt-related stories in the workshop recently, and they’re a perfect reminder of how important timely belt checks can be.
Last month, our friends at Cornwall Software Solutions had their AUX belt snap. When it went, it managed to throw the cambelt off as well, leaving the cam lobes a full 180° out of position. It was a serious issue — but with some teamwork and a few late nights we managed to resolve the issues saving the cost of a replacement engine. A lucky escape!
But as many of you know, no two cars react the same way…
We also had a Volvo come in with a nearly identical starting point: a snapped AUX belt. Unfortunately, this time when the cambelt slipped, it most likely bent the valves. The repair would involve stripping the engine, so the customer has chosen not to proceed as they’re considering changing vehicles.

💡 The takeaway? These things can happen completely if there own accord even on the best looked after of vehicles. However a simple belt inspection or replacement at the right time can save you thousands — and potentially your engine. If you’re unsure when yours was last checked, we’re always here to help.
