Facebook has reminded me it was exactly 10yrs since I took this pic on a dirt road deep in the Smokey Mountains of Tennessee on our Trans America Trail adventure.
Three months after I passed through the area, wildfires razed 18,000 acres of rural Tennessee to the ground. This was the exact same area where Dolly Parton had grown up.
Within 48hrs, Dolly had organised the ‘My People Fund’ that would ultimately raise $12,000,000 in funding aimed at getting money to every household affected by the fires. Remember. Be more like Dolly.

It’s the Bolton Abbey Series One Land Rover meet up this weekend so time to give the 1955 86in a good looking at ahead of its first outing of 2026. One thing I was keen to get to the bottom of was a very occasional high pitched squeal. Removing each of the brake drums revealed one with a broken spring and random lump of chewed up metal. This it turned out were the remains of the post on the brake shoe that normally sits on the brake adjuster cam. That’ll be the cause of the squeal then! I sent a picture of the offending lump of metal to my learned friend whose eagle eye prompted a one line response ‘Mintex brake shoes?’ He was right. They were Mintex brake shoes. Apparently ‘they do that!’
