In recent times has had a new rear crossmember fitted, not in the best of ways. Missing welds and upto 5 layers of plate stacked up pluses corrosion again it wasn't going to be difficult to be mske it straight and solid. The picture show the story....

Most discovery 2s are pushing 20 year old....this 51 plate presents its self like many as a clean well kept example, its underside not maintaining that front. Needing a rear quarter chassis which was already purchased prior to the work commencing hence the need to make one side long enough to replace all the affected area. A pre mot inspection highlighted a small area low on the drivers footwell which owing too the proximity to the brake pedal box would've caused a failure...so in true landrover style this minor issue became a full inner wing and footwell repair. This particular job highlights the main problem faced when trying to correct and accurately price these kind of jobs, you can never tell until the wire brush or needle gun has done its worst.

More modern defender definitely dont lend themselves to easy access for sensors and electric equipment. This 2.2 puma 90 has had a replacement clutch after its last mot some clumsy refitted resulted in the reverse light switch being damaged, the non working light not being noticed until test time. Reverse lights are part of the mot from 2009 onwards.
A replacement switch and repair harness where fitted once the floor mats and tunnel had been wrestled out.

The old daf 50 presenting a challenge. Spent some time patterning what is still present and making a datum to work from as so much was missing. Working forward from the arch edge building up the inner and outer section of the floor to step area and fabricating the pieces to go as they where from the factory.

Last job of 25....How far gone is too far? It's all just metal and measurements, copy and create the missing bits and put it back together. This Daf 50 needed some long overdue attention to the main sill and floor section. Watch this space as it progresses.

As is common with landrovers and their insatiable need to be tickled with the mig torch its never just a case of only 1 part needing attention. With the crossmember removed the exposed parts of the chassis where treated to a dose of wire brush this revealed several further issues mainly surrounding the O/S rear body mount and bumper bracket. A previous poor attempt at a repair inside the body mount of a piece of steel and a few tack welds finished with copious quantities of sealer to hide where the weld wasn't set the standard.
The section was removed in one after first producing a simple jig to ensure the body mount was fitted correctly following the repair.
