Another great training day with TTC Fleet.

Yesterday i had the pleasure of meeting one of the HGV mechanics from Marshall’s Motor Group Truck and Van and delivering on-road driver coaching for car and van drivers. It was a fantastic opportunity to gain a greater understanding of the vital work carried out behind the scenes to keep commercial vehicles safe, compliant, and operating efficiently.

Days like these highlight the importance of collaboration between drivers, trainers, and vehicle maintenance professionals in improving road safety and driving standards.

This video was published by Durham Police as part of their Road Safety Campaign and highlights an important issue that everyone involved in driver education should be aware of.

The shocking truth is that many collisions involving young drivers are not simply caused by a lack of driving skill, but by attitudes, choices, and a failure to fully appreciate the consequences of those choices.

Research consistently shows that newly qualified drivers are at a higher risk of being involved in a collision due to a combination of inexperience, overconfidence, peer pressure, distraction, and risk-taking behaviours.

As driving instructors, parents, educators, and road safety professionals, we have a responsibility to do more than just teach someone how to pass a driving test. We must help develop safe attitudes, responsible decision-making, self-awareness, and an understanding of the real consequences of poor choices behind the wheel.

This is exactly why the GDE Matrix is so important. Teaching vehicle control is only one part of creating safer drivers. The real challenge is influencing attitudes, behaviours, and risk awareness that will stay with drivers long after they have passed their test.

At Lloyds Driver Training, our aim has always been to create safe drivers for life, not just help learners pass a test.

If we genuinely want to reduce the number of young people killed or seriously injured on our roads, we must continue working together to influence attitudes and behaviours—not just driving skills.

Michelle and I are incredibly proud and honoured to announce that Lloyds Driver Training has been selected to receive an award from the Institute of Master Tutors of Driving (IMTD) for 2026, recognising the development and growth of our business.

Following a nomination and a unanimous decision by the judging panel, Lloyds Driver Training has been recognised for its commitment to excellence in driver training and the positive impact it continues to make within the industry.

This award represents the dedication, hard work, and passion that have gone into building Lloyds Driver Training from the ground up. Every lesson delivered, every learner supported, and every milestone achieved has been part of a journey to provide the highest standards of driver education and help create safe, confident drivers for life.

We would like to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has supported us along the way—our learners, their families, our instructors, and those who took the time to nominate us. Your trust and encouragement have played a huge part in this achievement.

We are looking forward to attending the official award presentation at the IMTD Annual Lunch on Sunday 13th September 2026.
