Family Reunited with Legendary Harold Beart's Historic Racing Morgan
An emotional chapter in British motorsport history was celebrated as Caroline Byrne, the great-niece of renowned racing driver Harold Beart, was reunited with her great-uncle's historic racing car following its painstaking restoration.
Caroline, who was born in Devon, spent many years living in the Cotswolds before emigrating to New Zealand 15 years ago. She travelled to see the completed restoration after her family learned that the project was nearing completion.
Speaking after seeing the car for the first time, Caroline described the experience as overwhelming.
"I'm absolutely blown away by it. I can't explain how exciting it is to actually see this car."
Harold Beart's legacy has remained an important part of the family's history. Photographs of him competing have long been displayed in family homes, while Caroline's father meticulously compiled a record of Harold's achievements, including the many records he set at Brooklands.
Despite preserving these memories, the family had lost track of the racing car after it passed out of their ownership and had no knowledge of its whereabouts for many years. Through determined research, Caroline's niece was eventually able to trace the vehicle and make contact with its restorer, leading to the family's long-awaited reunion with this significant piece of motoring heritage.
The restoration has not only returned a remarkable racing car to its former glory but has also reconnected the Beart family with an important part of their own history.
The reunion provided a poignant reminder that historic vehicle restorations preserve far more than engineering excellence—they safeguard the personal stories, achievements and legacy of the people behind them. For the Beart family, seeing Harold Beart's car once again was a proud and deeply moving occasion, ensuring that the legacy of one of Britain's early racing pioneers continues to inspire future generations.
