Rolls-Royce bare-metal restoration — Part 2: stripping it right back. 👀

After removing the old paint in Part 1, the next stage is all about getting this Rolls-Royce body back to bare metal.

The team carefully sands away the remaining paint, previous filler and any excess material left on the surface, giving us a much clearer view of the body underneath.

But sanding isn’t just about removing what’s there.

Creating a clean, properly prepared surface also gives us a good key for the next stage — filler and shaping — helping the new material adhere correctly as we begin refining the bodywork.

It’s one of those stages that might look simple from the outside, but it plays a huge part in building the right foundation for everything that follows.

Old paint off. Bare metal revealed. Next up: filler and shaping. 🔧

A very special visitor to Prestige Paintwork.

This stunning Jaguar C-Type kit car replica pays tribute to one of the most distinctive and celebrated designs in British motorsport history.

From the sweeping bodywork and classic wire wheels to that incredible deep green finish, the unmistakable influence of the legendary Jaguar C-Type is clear from every angle.

We’re fortunate to have some exceptional vehicles come through our doors, and it’s always a privilege to spend time around something with this much character and presence.

A beautiful celebration of classic British motoring — and certainly one we appreciated having with us.

Fibreglass repair — Part 2: sanding, shaping and building the surface back up. 👀

Following the initial repair from Part 1, Jeremy continues with the next stages of this fibreglass horsebox repair.

The excess fibreglass is first sanded back before fibreglass paste is applied to help smooth and refine the repaired areas.

Remaining stress cracks are then filled using resin and fibreglass matting, before the surface is sanded again and body filler is applied to continue shaping the repair.

From there, it’s all about careful preparation:

→ Sanding
→ Body filler
→ Primer
→ Final prep
→ Paint 🎨

A lot happens between repairing the original crack and reaching the final finish — and every stage matters.

It’s been a busy few weeks in the workshop — back-to-back repairs, full schedules and some seriously hot days thrown into the mix ☀️

But through it all, this team just gets on with it. 💪🏽
Same standards, same effort, day in, day out.

We don’t always shout about it, but the consistency and pride in the work is what keeps everything moving.

The cars and finished repairs are what you usually see on our page — but it’s the people behind them that make Prestige Paintwork what it is.

Rolls-Royce restoration — Part 1: stripping it back. 👀

Before we can properly assess the condition of the body, the existing paintwork needs to come off.

In this first stage, Jeremy is carefully stripping the Rolls-Royce back so we can see what’s really happening underneath the layers of paint and identify any areas that may need attention as the restoration progresses.

You’ll see the existing paint begin to lift and bubble as the stripping product gets to work, before it is carefully removed from the surface.

It might not be the glamorous part of a restoration, but this stage gives us the clean foundation we need to properly inspect the body before moving forward.

Next up: sanding the Rolls-Royce back further, getting into those smaller areas and revealing even more of the body underneath.

Before and after Subaru bodywork repair. 👌

This Subaru came into Prestige Paintwork with damage around the rear wheel arch and side trim area.

After careful preparation and fitment, the arch trim was restored for a cleaner, sharper finish, bringing the vehicle back to the standard it should be.
