A big congratulations to Janushan on passing his driving test with just **3 driving faults!**

What a fantastic achievement, Janushan. You should be really proud of yourself.

It's been a pleasure helping you develop your driving skills and watching your confidence grow throughout our lessons.

You've put in the time and effort, continued building on what you've learnt, and all that hard work has certainly paid off.

Passing your test is a wonderful achievement, but just as importantly, you've developed the skills and confidence to begin driving independently and safely.

Well done, Janushan! Enjoy your new-found freedom, and I wish you many years of safe and happy driving.

Roundabouts are one of the areas where many learners feel pressure to make a quick decision.
I remind pupils that the aim is not to enter at the first possible moment. The aim is to recognise a safe opportunity and make a controlled decision.
During lessons, we may begin with quieter roundabouts before gradually introducing busier ones. I explain what to look for, allow time for questions and provide support until the pupil is ready to make decisions more independently.
Confidence usually grows through repeated, manageable practice. There is no benefit in rushing someone into a situation before they understand what they are seeing.

Entering A roundabout Safely.
When approaching a roundabout, it is important to identify vehicles coming from the right and decide whether entering would affect their speed or direction.
Begin by reducing your speed and looking early. Watch the position and movement of approaching vehicles rather than relying only on their signals. A signal can be helpful, but it should be considered alongside where the vehicle is travelling.
If a vehicle from the right is close enough that it may need to slow down because you entered, wait for a safer opportunity. Avoid moving simply because the vehicle behind appears impatient.
Also look ahead for traffic already on the roundabout, pedestrians near the exits and vehicles that may change lanes.
Roundabouts can feel busy at first, but they become easier when the task is broken into clear steps: approach at a manageable speed, observe carefully, decide calmly and move when it is safe.

Sometimes a pupil can explain exactly what they should do but still find it difficult when the situation happens on the road.
That is completely normal. Understanding a skill and applying it confidently are two different stages of learning.
When we work on judging approaching traffic, I encourage pupils to talk through what they can see and what is influencing their decision. This helps me understand their thought process rather than simply focusing on the outcome.
From there, I can adjust my explanation or choose a quieter location for more practice. Lessons should give you the time and support needed to turn understanding into safe, independent decisions.

Judging the speed of an approaching vehicle can be difficult, especially when you are still gaining experience.
Try not to base your decision only on how far away the vehicle appears. Watch it for a little longer and consider how quickly it is getting closer. A vehicle travelling at a higher speed can reach you much sooner than expected.
At junctions, avoid making a decision because you feel that you should have moved already. If you are unsure whether there is enough time, waiting for a safer opportunity is the right choice.
It also helps to look more than once. Traffic conditions can change quickly, so complete a final check immediately before moving.
This skill improves through experience in different locations and traffic conditions. During lessons, we can pause when safe, discuss what you are seeing and practise making decisions without unnecessary pressure.
There is nothing wrong with taking the time you need to make a safe choice.

When a pupil misses something at a junction, I do not simply tell them to “look more.”
We talk through what made the situation difficult. They may have approached too quickly, looked at the wrong time or concentrated so hard on one direction that they missed something elsewhere.
I explain the situation clearly, answer any questions and then give them another opportunity to practise without pressure.
Mistakes help us understand what needs more attention. My aim is to help each pupil develop a calm and reliable routine that they can use independently, not to make them feel judged for getting something wrong.
