Back on with the Renault 5 GT Turbo- now moved over to the drivers side.

Fuel filler surround cut out, new section made up from scratch and welded/dressed in.

Uncovered a few areas which will require repairs before new sills can go on- this side didn’t look as bad on the surface, but the rot really has been working away out of sight 👎

On this stunning supercharged Jaguar XJR-6 today for a returning customer. Sorting out a scuttle corner and sill end, ahead of being sold.

New sections made from scratch, and formed to the original shape as close as possible. Any surface rust cleaned up and treated ahead of the customer doing the finishing touches.

Worked on an 80’s icon this week- this stunning Renault 5 GT Turbo 👌

Started off as a routine inner and outer sill replacement, once layers started coming off though, advanced corrosion along with bodge after bodge was uncovered.

Along with sills, the centre structure panel was replaced, along with front and rear jacking points, about 20% of the passenger floor, front outriggers, and the inner arch closing panel.

A lot of work has gone into an area that will ultimately be completed covered by carpet and the bodykit, but there’s a lot of satisfaction in saving another classic, especially one that’s fast appreciating.

*The grinding and prep work will be carried out by the bodyshop lads ahead of paint.

Hi all, bit of a long winded post, but I’ve done a write up to make any future enquiries a little more straightforward 😊

Enquiries MUST be either through this page, my Instagram page , or via WhatsApp on 07916005292. I get a lot of enquiries and work on my personal Facebook, and messages do unfortunately get lost amongst general messages. For the foreseeable the above number only works on WhatsApp, as I do try to seperate work from family time, so it won’t work on standard calls.

I have been getting a lot of out of area work, so to reflect this I have decided to expand my working radius to a 60 mile radius from the Manchester M38 area. I will be charging £1 a mile mileage from this location, 1 way, after the 1st 5 miles. If the job unexpectedly overruns due to no fault of the customer, then I will not charge mileage on a return visit.

I do normally encourage sending clear photos of the work needed, however any visits which require a prior call out for a quote will be charged at £40 flat rate, this will then be knocked off the job if it goes ahead. Unfortunately I have had to do this as I have had a number of enquiries and then total silence following, and this does result in a number of lost hours I could be spending on other work.

2 options of finish offered to suit your budget or needs;
•basic- welds mildly ground back.
•flushed-bodyshop standard which costs extra.
I can offer both standards on the same car if your budget dictates so (For example; flushed standard outer sill, basic standard inner sill/ inner arch/ sill, or anywhere generally out of sight). Regardless of which, it is all cut back properly to ensure a long lasting repair, I do not just patch over what’s there.

I apply fixed pricing to the following on cars and small vans ONLY, assuming the area has been stripped of parts for total access prior to work (I can assist with this but I will have to charge for added time to the job at an agreed rate);

•Full outer sill labour per side (over 600mm) £220 basic, £300 flushed
•Full inner sills labour per side (over 600mm) £250 basic, 330 flushed
•Rear outer sill partial sections labour per side (up to 600mm) £120 basic, £200 flushed
•Inner sills partial sections labour per side (up to 600mm) £150 basic, £230 flushed

I do generally insist on correct fitment outer sill panels where possible (inners don’t take me long to make), this increases efficiency which keeps my labour costs lower. I am more than happy to assist with sourcing these if needs be.

Anything else, including commercial vehicles, then the price quoted is STRICTLY an estimate until complete assessment has been carried out, to ensure there is no underlying work required which may add time to the job. Please bear in mind a proper inspection may involve some cutting to gain access to structurally unsound areas, it is not always possible to view this externally.

I have done this with the aim of improving efficiency, and helping to improve response times and general customer satisfaction 🙂

Cheers, Dan

Lately, I’ve fitted this Mini rebuild in around other bits. I’m around 3 weeks, and about 40 man hours in now from when I first took a cutting disc to it. In no particular order..

•Flitch panel replaced
•Inner and outer sill, & jacking point rebuilt
•Drivers front floor replaced
•New drivers door hinge panel and outer skin
•Outer rear heelboard/ subframe mount
•Various boot floor patches cut out, and replaced
•Various drilled floor holes welded up
•Half boot floor replacement
•New centre lower boot panel
•New O/S lower boot panel corner

This Mini has taken a bit of a new direction during the build. It’s evolved into what will eventually be a Honda B Series powered example, so the decision was made fairly early on to focus on retaining as much strength as possible, by adding a few extra seam/ stitch welds over what would’ve been applied at the factory, and not completely flushing down any underside weld joins where new panels have been put in.

Rear valance and doors have been test fitted, and now the car is ready to rotate 180° to crack on with the other side. After that it’ll be taken off the jig and new rear arch tubs and rear quarters will go in, and then i should be able to move onto the front end. A lot done up to now, yet still much left to do..

Made a start on an Austin Mini, where to start with this one.. 🤦‍♂️

Today was more of an assessment to see how far i need to unpick before I’m at metal that is clean, and hasn’t seen a previous bodge.

Inner A post seems to be mostly solid, so will repair this first and get the new flitch panel properly lined up and cut in 👍

Working up in Preston this weekend, fitting a pair of outer sills and a section of O/S front inner sill on this 20 year old Fabia VRS. OE quality panels fully seam and plug welded, and blended in ahead of filler and paint 👍

Will be coming back to me at a later date for a boot floor and a section of inner arch to sort 👨‍🏭

Inner arch pocket and outer rear sill repair on this lovely MK1 Golf GTI Cabriolet.

Customer came to me just wanting this small area repairing, by the time good metal had been found it resulted in what you can see here. Internal structure was still solid, so was cleaned up, protected, and the new closing panel spot welded to it and then seam welded. Outer sill and arch lip made up, and dressed off for paint

Chassis rail repair on a 2009 Fiat Qubo ahead of its upcoming MOT.

Affected area cut out, internally cleaned and treated, and with the help of cardboard aided design, a new piece knocked up and welded in.

This only arrived for a simple n/s outer sill replacement initially, however further inspection revealed inner and outer sills wanted replacing on both sides, along with lower inner rear arch pockets, along with said chassis rail. The car had likely met seawater at some point in its life- judging by the amount of sand the inner sill structure was holding.
