😞 Another “road mapping” failure. This Skyline came in for a power run/safety check after being mapped on the road elsewhere, prior to a track day at Brands Hatch. Turns out it was terrible with many basic errors and heavy detonation that would have resulted in an engine failure. We managed to get everything optimised and ended up with much more power and torque everywhere and the turbo spooling almost 1000rpm earlier. Can be filed under “false economy”.

Here’s a lovely little project we’re working on now. If you saw the photo of a cylinder head we cut up to understand the proximity of water jackets and oil galleries to the intake and exhaust ports, this head is the recipient of that understanding 😀

We were able to perform extreme porting whilst maintaining adequate wall thickness 🎯

👨‍🎓Tech Tip: it’s necessary to optimise intake and exhaust port volumes and shapes to increase Volumetric Efficiency for maximum performance. We didn’t get the opportunity to build an adapter for our flowbench so don’t have any data, but after 40 years of experience we’re pretty sure to be on the right track 💪
