🚨 DO YOU BUY YOUR OWN ADBLUE LIKE THIS?
If you do… you might want to think twice before putting it in your vehicle.
We took this photo because this is something we are seeing more and more of.
AdBlue isn't just something you can buy, leave sitting around anywhere and assume it will always be fine.
It is a highly specific fluid that needs to be stored correctly. The manufacturers' and industry guidance recommends that AdBlue is protected from direct sunlight, kept at suitable temperatures and stored in clean, properly sealed containers.
☀️ Direct sunlight and heat can accelerate the degradation of AdBlue.
🧪 Contamination can affect its quality. AdBlue should only come into contact with suitable, clean materials and containers.
❄️ Temperature extremes can also be a problem.
And this is one of the reasons we are attending so many vehicles with excessive AdBlue crystallisation, SCR faults and AdBlue system problems.
We're not saying every bottle of AdBlue bought from a shop is bad.
The problem is what happens when it has been stored incorrectly, left outside, exposed to heat and sunlight, stored for too long or transferred using unsuitable/contaminated equipment.
By the time it goes into your vehicle, you could have no idea what condition it is actually in.
And remember — the AdBlue system isn't cheap to repair.
A problem with poor-quality or contaminated AdBlue can potentially lead to expensive faults involving the pump, injector, sensors and SCR system.
👉 Our advice?
Buy AdBlue from a reputable source, make sure it meets the required ISO 22241 specification, check the container and product condition, and don't leave bottles sitting in direct sunlight or somewhere that gets extremely hot.
That £10 bottle of AdBlue might seem like a bargain…
Until it contributes to a £500, £1,000+ repair bill.
We are seeing the consequences first-hand.
Look after your AdBlue system — it could save you a lot of money further down the line.
