Crumbly Sticky Foam 😫

I honestly didn't know what I was letting myself in for with this one! 😅😅😅

This Golf had been stood for a while and must've had some damp inside, causing the foam behind the roof lining to crumble away and leaving the headliner sagging badly 😳

Once it starts sagging, the fabric stretches, so in an ideal world a complete re-trim with new fabric would've been the best option. But the customer just wanted it fixed so it wasn't drooping down onto their head anymore! 😂

There was quite a lot to remove just to release the headliner, but it was the only way to tackle it properly. All the old, crumbly foam had to be removed before we had any chance of getting it to stick back down again. 💯

Not every job is about making a car shine... sometimes it's about stopping the roof from falling on your head! 😂

As promised, here’s the video from years ago of me sanding as low as 60 grit and still working all the way back up to make this headlight lens clear again! 😳

These had suffered a seriously deep chemical burn from a local hand wash and literally looked like someone had thrown acid on them.

The funny thing was, even Google was basically telling me I was mad for going as low as 60 grit… only to have to eat its words when it saw the finished result! 😂

And this all came from someone jokingly saying I should go down to 60 grit after seeing my recent T5 restoration, where I went down to 120.

The thing is, they were joking because 60 grit sounds absolutely ridiculous for a headlight… but little did they know, I’d already done it years ago and conquered it! 😂💯

Sometimes you’ve just got to trust the process and know how to work your way back up through the grades. 💎
