No surprise as Jeffrey sets early pace

Jeffrey Herlings has set the early pace in the this morning’s free practice session at Arnhem in the Netherlands ahead of fellow Dutch star, Kay De Wolf. Lucas Coenen was fourth, completing eight laps in the session with Glen Coldenhoff fifth . A strong showing in his final GP , making it three home riders in the top five. Tim Gajser is the man in the middle in third. Andrea Bonacorsi, my prediction to be Ducati’s first world motocross champion by 2030 is inside the top 10 as is Kevin Horgmo at Honda Motobluz . The Norwegian is under pressure for his seat there so will want a strong showing this weekend to secure a ride for 2027. Ben Watson was an excellent 12th and Adam Sterry a respectable 22nd in a 34 man field this weekend.

Young Brits make solid start in Free Practice

Joe Brookes and Jamie Keith finished free practice Group A in 3rd and seventh positions respectively with Billy “VanDer” Askew 3rd in Group B. Billy is turning into a sandfly in the second half of the season after that excellent Race 2 win at Lommel. Promising signs for the young Brits in Arnhem today

Just heard off Max Harris and unfortunately he won’t be making the trip this weekend. Max has had issues with both of his bikes and only ridden twice since the British Round at Canada Heights and so makes the hard decision to withdraw from this weekend. Let’s hope he gets this sorted soon. All the best Max.

Young Brits all set for EMX250 in Arnhem this weekend

A whopping 76 riders will attempt to qualify for this weekend's penultimate round of this year's EMX250 series at Arnhem in the Netherlands. In that group will be four young British riders. Regulars Joe Brookes and Billy Askew are joined by Max Harris and Jamie Keith respectively.

Also stepping up to the EMX250s this weekend are the EMX125 Yamaha Europe squad of Sleny Goyer and Levi Townley. Goyer was EMX85 European champion in 2024 and Townley was World 85cc champ in that same year, twenty years after father Ben won his MX2 World title.

The standout performer in this class of 2026 is the young Spaniard, Francisco Garcia. The venom Bud Kawasaki man missed the round at Lommel with a knee injury but was back in action last weekend in Sweden to take another double race victory, his sixth maximum score of 2026. His closest rival is the Dane Nico Skovbjerg who sits 87 points behind so a seventh in Race 1 will guarantee the EMX250 crown for Garcia before he moves to the factory Kawasaki MX2 Team for 2027.

Skovbjerg and Gacia's team mate, Australian Jake Cannon have been the most consistent of the rest and it's no surprise that they sit second and third in the standings.

Gyan Doensen sits fourth aboard his Gabriel SS24 KTM. This has been a "bit of a flip" season for Gyan in that he's enjoyed better results in the British Championship with three overall victories and just the two podiums in EMX250... so far. However, this weekend Gyan will fancy his chances, especially at home on the circuit that he secured a brilliant double race viictory in EMX 125 in 2024. Good luck Gyan

Mads Fredsoe makes it two Danes in the top five on his KTM and is good in sand with Nico Alvisi on the Maddi Honda in sixth. Alvisi was a bit of a road block in Race 1 last weekend but the young Italian showed when clinching the EMX125 crown at Lommel in 2025 that he can more than hold his own in the sand. Tom Brunet is seventh ,Francesco Bellei is eighth and in good form after the podium in Sweden last weekend as the injured Liam Owens is ninth with young Latvian, Jakub Kubulins rounding at the top ten. The two stroke Yamaha youngster is another who loves the sand.

So, after bigging up that lot, what of our boys ? Joe Brookes is the "form horse" outside of the top three . Starts are crucial in every meeting in this group, but this weekend with it's flick left and right first two corners can see the first half a dozen get away. There's absolutely no reason why Joe or Billy can't be in that group. Ironically, I thought Billy rode really well last weekend. Coming from the back of the pack on a track that is notoriously difficult to pass on to get into the points was a great effort. After a victory at Lommel Billy should be relishing this weekend.

Jamie Keith was an excellent fourth in Race 1 EMX125 at this venue two years ago and the young Cumbrian certainly has the speed in 2026 that warrants a chance at this level. Jamie has made excellent starts at home in the British Championship and providing he can negotiate his way through a packed track for timed qualification, Jamie could surprise a few this weekend.

Max Harris on his two stroke Yamaha makes his debut in EMX250 for 2026. Max is definitely stronger in sand than on the slick hard packs, where the power delivery of the two stroke is less of a disadvantage (if any in sand) . Max certainly caught the eye in Race 1 at Lyng in the British Championship where he finished an excellent seventh. As with Jamie, if Max can negotiate his way through qualification then that would be excellent to have four riders get through at this level at an overseas round.

Colin and Julie continue at the helm with some subtle changes for 2027

Following on from our 2nd season as Promoters of the official ACU British MXGB Youth, Clubman & Women’s Championship, we are pleased to confirm our continuation of the partnership with the ACU going forward into 2027.

Following a difficult year for many including ourselves with the great British inclement weather playing a major part, some event track preparation not up to our normal required and expected standard together with spiraling event costs has encouraged us to re-evaluate the championship.

As the British Youth, Clubman and Women’s Championship should be the pathway for riders to gain experience with their racing progressing to the adult British MXGB Adult Championship, and into Europe, for 2027 we will still include the Junior 65cc, Small Wheel 85cc, Big Wheel 85cc, MXY2 Youth classes together with the Women’s and Women’s Youth (125cc and above). However, we really appreciate that there is a big difference between Clubman and Expert Racing within the UK and for 2027 we will continue with the popular Clubman Classes and introduce an Amateur Adult Class which will be the feeder class for the ACU British MXGB Expert Championship ran by Paul Urwin. The new Amateur Adult class will be open to all adults provided they are not in the Top 15 of the ACU British MXGB Adult championship at the conclusion of their 2026 championship.

The format of the weekend will see longer free practice sessions together with Start Practice, Timed Practice / Qualifying for the Junior 65cc, Small Wheel 85cc, Big Wheel 85cc and MXY2 Youth classes together with one Sprint Race on the Saturday followed by two longer races Sunday.

The Women’s, Clubman and Amateur Classes will have a shorter Practice / Qualifying session together with four races over the weekend.

Racing for 2027 will see the introduction of Start Grids.

Podium Presentations will take place after each groups last race on the Sunday enabling everyone to leave the venue for home as soon as possible after their last race which also helps with the local road infrastructure at venues.

Despite rising event costs, we are conscious of the current cost of living crisis and high fuel tariffs imposed on us all and have therefore kept the 2027 Registration and individual five rounds of the championship the same as 2026.

Registration Forms will be available at Foxhill on Sunday 4th October for the 46 gate places per class.

Youth Moto MX

Francisco Garcia was back to winning ways despite struggling a little with his injured knee. Joe Brookes had an excellent race, spending much of it in third place after passing young Italian Nico Alvisi early on. He then spent the entire race sat in the wheel tracks of Francesco Bellei and despite several attempts Joe couldn’t make a pass stick and was made to pay late on as Nicolai Skovbjerg came from a long way back to pass them both inside the last two laps. However, fourth at this level is still an excellent showing.
Billy Askew was on the floor at Turn 1 but produced a strong ride through the field to claim two points with a nineteenth placed finish.

In a group featuring many of the leading lights that we saw in action Foxhill, Brian and Hayden took their KTM’s to 8th and 9th respectively, ahead of Lucas Leok .

Their first race is mid afternoon today . Good luck to the boys.

Brookes Bright as a Button in EMX250 Free

Promising signs this morning for British boys Joe Brookes and Billy Askew after they were 1st and 6th in EMX250 Group B Free Practice in Sweden . Joe was quickest aboard his Honda ahead of Italians Nico Alvisi, last year’s EMX125 champion and Ducati mounted Simoni Mancini . Two Swedes then followed in 4th and 5th in the shape of Laban Alm and EMX250 regular Alve Callemo . Billy Askew as mentioned was 6th for Dirtstore Triumph ahead of Gyan Doensen for Gabriel SS24 KTM and the Bud Kawasaki of Jake Cannon
