‼️WARNING GRAPHIC POST‼️

With the tennis season beginning and many people tuning in to watch Wimbledon over the next few weeks, this reminded us that we had patient recently who had ingested chocolate and poor Andy Murray had to catch the result of this patient being made sick. 🤢

💭 This comes as a reminder to be cautious when eating foods that are poisonous to our pets, including chocolate, and things that can cause harm such as corn on the cob and BBQ skewers.

☎️ If you think your pet has ingested and harmful foods or objects please contact a veterinary care provider ASAP for advice.

As owners we tend to be more familiar with the ways we can keep our canine companions cool in the warm weather. Here are afew hints how we can do the same for our feline friends. 🥵

🔥 Hot weather 🔥

Please take extra care of pets big and small in these warm temperatures.

💦 Ensure they have access to cold drinking water at all times.
🥒 Wash small furries vegetables in cold water before giving them to them.
🪭 Ensure cages and hutches are in cool, shaded and well ventilated areas.
🚶‍♀️ Avoid exercising assuring the day when it’s at its warmest.
☀️ Discourage sunbathing.
🚗 If car journey’s are necessary, make sure your car is cooled before putting your pet in it to travel.
🚿 If you are concerned your pet is getting too warm actively cool them immediately using fans, cold water if possible and allow frequent drinks of small volumes of cold water (avoid gulping).
☎️ If you need advice, call the surgery.

☀️ Preventing heat-related illness in our pets

With amber and red weather warnings for heat covering much of the UK this week, it’s important to keep our pets as cool as possible.

- Never leave pets in a car or hot room
- Make sure pets have access to a cool, shaded, and well-ventilated area, both indoors and outdoors
- Always provide fresh drinking water
- Walk dogs during cooler times of the day, avoiding walks altogether on very hot days.
