Antifreeze. Beware of cheap "concentrated" antifreeze which is NOT concentrated but ready to use!! which means you are purchasing water. Concentrated antifreeze should, when diluted 1:1 with water, provide -38 centigrade protection, use this data to determine what you are buying. Many vendors are selling water as concentrated antifreeze. Contact www.pistoncomponents.co.uk for more FREE advice

Harmonic dampers or crankshaft dampers are essential devices that can prevent catastrophic engine failure. Dampers compensate for crankshaft torsional resonance. During an engine rebuild, examine and, if necessary, replace the damper. contact www.pistoncomponents.co.uk for more FREE advice

Valve Springs. Almost all engines use valve springs to close the inlet and exhaust valves. Valve springs will compress and expand millions of times during their life time. Valve springs can reduce in length reducing their closing force. These springs must be replaced to prevent valve bounce adversely affecting engine performance. Measure spring length and compare with the spring specified length in the manual. Inlet & exhaust springs may be of different lengths. contact www.pistoncomponents.co.uk for more FREE advice

Turbo replacement- If replacing or conducting an engine repair. ALWAYS pre-lube your turbo. Whether a new turbo or refitting the existing turbo. A "dry" turbo will be fatally damaged in the few seconds it takes for the oil pump to provide engine oil. Contact www.pistoncomponents.co.uk for more FREE advice

Oil Viscosity. Oil provides a cushion (clearance) between moving metal components. Oils vary in viscosity (thickness). Always fit the correct oil specification for your engine. Each engine has a different oil specification 0W20 has low viscosity, 20W50 has a higher viscosity providing a greater cushion. Oil deteriorates over time, so regular oil changes will protect your engine. Contact www.pistoncomponents.co.uk for more FREE advice

Engine Oil. Lubricates & cools. Regular oil changes keep your engine healthy. Carbon particles are a by-product of combustion of fuel. These particles can overwhelm the oil filter allowing dirty oil to circulate increasing the temperature of oil which can affect the efficacy of engine oil to lubrication & to cool.
