πŸš— Road Position Tips for Safer Driving

A good road position gives you more time to react and keeps you safer on the road.

βœ… Drive about 1 metre (3 feet) from the kerb
βœ… Leave a door's width when passing parked cars (around 1–1.5 metres where possible)
βœ… Watch for opening doors, pedestrians stepping out, and vehicles moving off

Small adjustments can make a big difference to your safety and confidence behind the wheel.

At a red light 🚦, always stop before the first white line and keep the cycle box clear 🚲 so cyclists can safely move off when the lights change. Never enter the cycle box unless you're a cyclist or you've already crossed before the light turned red.

This helps keep the road safe and can also help you pass your driving test βœ”οΈ

πŸš— Driving Tip of the Day πŸš—

🟨 Yellow Box Junction: Only enter if your exit is clear so you won't have to stop in the box, except when turning right and waiting for a gap in oncoming traffic.

🚫 KEEP CLEAR: Do not stop on the marked area or block access through it.

βœ… Know the rules.
βœ… Stay safe.
βœ… Drive with confidence.

πŸš— Normal Driving Position πŸš—

Always drive in the left lane when it is safe and practical to do so. Use the right lane only for overtaking, turning right, avoiding parked cars or other obstructions, or when directed by road signs or lane markings. Once it is safe, return to the left lane and continue in your normal driving position. βœ…

🚦 Always remember to check your centre mirror when slowing down, especially when approaching traffic lights. Keeping an eye on the traffic behind can help you react safely if another vehicle is following too closely.

🚲 If there’s a cycle box at the lights, stop before the first stop line when the light is red and keep the cycle box clear for cyclists.

Safe driving starts with good observation! πŸ‘€πŸš—

Awareness and forward planning are fundamental skills in safe driving. During lessons, learners are encouraged to develop the ability to anticipate potential hazards, assess changing road conditions, and make informed decisions in good time. Building these skills not only supports success in the driving test but also promotes safer, more confident driving for life.

πŸš— Tight space? Slow down, drop a gear, and keep at least 1 metre of clearance if possible.

A good guide: if a fully opened car door would touch the vehicle or object beside you, you're too close and should reduce your speed. Safety first! πŸ‘
