Ford Focus: Troubleshooting the dreaded U3000 code•
Recently, we attended a Ford Focus reported for a suspected battery drain and a loss of power steering following a jump start
First, we checked for a parasitic draw, which tested negative. We then moved on to the charging system, which passed inspection, leaving the battery itself as the primary suspect
A load test confirmed the battery was failing. A replacement was installed, which successfully cleared the low-voltage diagnostic codes
Next, we investigated the power steering issue. After carrying out thorough wiring checks to the PSCM (Power Steering Control Module), we confirmed the wiring was perfect
With a replacement unit carrying a hefty price tag of £1,260, we offered the customer the option to attempt a software update as a cost-effective first resort
With the software update completed, the power steering fully recovered, and no further faults returned.
