Mini petrol engine

πŸš— Dead misfire on cylinder 4

πŸš— Swapping Coil packs and plugs over would have diagnosed this one quite quickly and that's what I done to confirm the cause of the misfire however I always like to take a look at misfires with an oscilloscope.

The reason I do this is to learn what the waveform characteristics look like white each failure so when I have that intermittent misfire I can capture it on the scope and pick it out and also know what the cause was.

This was a shorted coil winding inside the coil pack. I learned this from Scanner Danner. I've added an image from Scanner Danner E-Book which I highly recommend. I love the man! He's the reason for all this. I've added a link to his SD Premium website

https://www.scannerdanner.com/

πŸš— I have some footage of this job. It's not the best footage but I'll post it up tonight once I edit it. Thanks guys

Update on the Audi A3 with the rear door not working.

I found the broken Lin wire inside the driver door harness a few inches from the connector. There was also other wires starting to break.

I also added a couple of images of the Lin signal for those interested, this is the Lin data bit changing on the Lin signal when the switch was in 2 different positions. Pretty cool to see. Notice the number and the signal change

Maybe we should make a DDTSB on this one as it's a manufacturing issue that will occur with other vehicles

New tool Day today.

It's the Key tool MIDI, this will work along nicely with my vvdi multiprog to add some extra locksmith capabilities. It also has a TPMS tool built in so that's good aswel.

Just trying to build up my capabilities.

If I'm honest I've had mixed results with locksmith work but I'm heavily invested and it's a good earner if I get half decent at it and if I learn all the ways to get myself out of trouble when things go sideways then that's the plan.

Cheers guys

Guys I'm on the scrounge 🀠

Has anyone got any genuine MLB style keys they can spare?

I've had the KYDZ MLB tool for some time and I'm looking to practice removing the chip from the MLB key and reading the key data. I'd rather practice before doing it in someone's Active key ovcourse

Cheers. Pic for attention

Audi A3

🧐 Passenger rear locking and window intermittently not working

🧐Back story
This car came into me from another garage who had checked all wiring in the door which checked out okay.
I also had this car in last week and confirmed everything worked with Power,Ground and LIN signal all present at rear door πŸšͺ

🧐 Today's Visit
So it started off all working as normal same as last visit. I made a plan to monitor the LIN signal before it eventually failed and/or if the module was faulty then I thought I should De-code the Lin bus messages from the window switch and Central Locking to prove that the messages were reaching the module.

I triggered the Lin signal using the Pulse width Trigger to hold it steady and then analyse the various signals to pick out the window switch commands. The number and the signal would change accordingly

Rest position = 9
Switch up 1st position = 18
Full up 2nd position=28
Full down position=48

That was all very good and completely unnecessary because I actually found the issue not long after I done this.

🧐 Result
The Lin signal comes from the Driver's door module (Master) to the OSR door module (slave) . I did wiggle the harness at the OSR door and no drop outs atall.
BUT I did not wiggle the harness at the OSF door...if you watch the video you will see the issue is on the driver's door πŸšͺ

A couple of jobs so far this week.

A beautiful transporter in for an SOS fault which required a software update. This owner travelled from quite a distance for this repair. Andy Young from Yorkshire VWAG Retrofits & Solutions was contacted by this customer firstly and we arranged for the repair down at MA Headquarters πŸ˜‰πŸ§

Ohh and Andy also carried out a brake module repair to this Audi. You know the red light of doom that occurs from too many brake presses with a faulty vacuum sensor

JEEP compass 1.6

πŸš—This vehicle came to me from a local dealership. They had replaced the P/M sensor (Particule matter) . They said the wiring is ok but there is a no communication fault stored for the sensor.

πŸš—I Confirmed the fault code which was U02A3 I'm sure it was, the scanner description was No Communication. I researched the location of the sensor and proceeded to test for power, ground and network which checked out good.

πŸš— DDTSB had a document relating to that code and it gave 2 possible solutions. Faulty PM sensor or a software update.
It goes on to say that when the PM sensor is replaced with Bosch sensors the original software cannot read the sensor so an updated software is available specifically for this issue.

I logged into the A1 Remote Diagnostics and got Adam who told me this was actually his second update of the day for this very issue. Common apparently πŸ˜†

DDTSB and the A1 Remote team once again making the job go successfully. what else can I say..they are like the workshop avengers

Update on what's been going on 🧐

The KANGOO thermostat arrived today and the resistance value was 16 ohms just like DDTSB said and I pressure tested afterwards to make sure all is ok πŸ˜‰

The Renault Kadjar or whatever the model is came back in for it's DPF sensor pipes. Another DDTSB job successful done.

And today in the afternoon while I was waiting on parts I decided to have a little go at my soldering test board. My good mate Alan from next door came in for a cup of tea and we both had a go at soldering using flux, soldering station, and the hot air gun.
We gave ourselves plenty praise for our first attempt as we thought it was a great effort lol πŸ˜†
