I don’t often post pass pictures as I let my students post their own. George Coake was so proud, however - and quite rightly so - he asked me to post it too and tell the world. He passed today on his first attempt and even the examiner said it was a really good drive. Proud of you George, now keep driving safely 🚙🚗

THE 6 EYES OF A DRIVER

Most people think driving is about what is in front of them.

That is only one part of the picture.

Safe driving is not about having good eyesight
It is about knowing where to look and what to look for

A good driver is constantly using six “eyes” at the same time

Road layout
Lane discipline

🔹 Mirror eyes
Traffic behind
Speed of approaching vehicles

🔹 Pedestrian eye
Crossings
Bus stops
People near kerbs

🔹 Vehicle eyes
Hidden vehicles
Blind spots
Large vehicles that need space

🔹 Speed eye
Your speed
Others’ speed
Vulnerable road users

🔹 Hazard eye
Bends
Weather
The unexpected

Most drivers use two eyes

Good drivers use all six

That is the difference between reacting to danger and seeing it before it happens.

23 years ago today I passed my Part 3 exam to become a fully qualified instructor. A year later Elliotts School of Motoring was formed. I loved it then and I still love it now.
I can honestly say I have something I enjoy doing that I’m lucky enough to get paid for. Of course it wouldn’t be possible without all my lovely students and their test passes and their recommendations over the years. Thank you all 🫶
