Last week saw us heading to Pembroke Dock, West Wales, with a fully rebuilt Volvo Penta KAD43 6-cylinder engine loaded into our new Kia PV5 van.
We approached the journey with a little trepidation as it was the van’s first proper long-distance trip, and first away from home charge, but it performed brilliantly. With just a quick charging stop at Chippenham on the way there (and another on the return journey), it proved to be more than capable of covering the distance.
Our task was to refit the freshly rebuilt engine alongside the second engine we had previously rebuilt, before reinstalling both sterndrive units. Once everything was back in place, connected up and ready for the next stage, we loaded one of the original engines into the van and headed back home.
That engine is now back in our workshop, where it will undergo a complete strip-down, detailed inspection and a full rebuild.
Another successful trip completed and another step towards getting the boat back on the water. It’s always rewarding to see our workshop efforts coming together on site.
