Whickham and District Motor Club was established in 1963 and is one of the North East's largest and most involved motor clubs.

The club is planning another social evening at Star Pelaw dog track near Birtley. We're having a trip out on Saturday 14th November and it's priced at £19.95 per ticket which includes a 2 course carvery meal, entry to the venue and your race card for the evening. 🐕 🏁

Last week saw a couple of our clubs' longstanding members out competing in a car together for the first time in forty years!

Ronnie and Alan were out taking part on Hexham & District Motor Club's 12 car rally last week. It was also Alan's 86th birthday so the team celebrated at the end with a big slice of cake! 🍰

Whickham & District club member Phil Sandham was out last weekend on the Mewla Rally competing in the historic class with driver Dave Hopkins in his RS1600 BDA. The pair won the H1 class. 🥇

Phil has also been busy on several other events recently including:

The Tour of Epynt with Neil Matthews in his 2ltr Proton a brilliant car, they did 6 stages but sadly, only 2 stages without a issues.

Then Phil picked up a last minute ride on the Pendragon with Ruan Lowry in his Citroen C2 Clubman rally car. Ruan is only 18 but Phil says he drove the door handles off the little C2!

Earlier in August Phil picked up a another seat on the Grampian Rally, an enjoyable experience with a driver on his first rally in his home built MG ZF 1400cc car.

Then Phil headed off to compete in The Down Rally in Northern Ireland in a Rally 3 Fiesta. An awesome car 4 wheel drive! Richard O Lone was the driver again a brilliant ride and missed the class win by 1.5 seconds over the 70 miles so a very tight event.

Phil must be one of our most active members and although I don't want to give away his age, he's still enjoying being in the hot seat with over 50 years of competing experience behind him. 😎

💥 Annual Club BBQ 💥

We've arranged another annual club BBQ at The Garage Bar and Grille one again. The date is Saturday 15th of August so if you'd like to come along please get in touch with Audrey to reserve a ticket.

Arrive from 6.30pm. There'll be plenty of food cooked to perfection once again. 😎

Well done Peter Metcalfe - Winner last night of both club events!

Peter won the timing challenge dropping a mere 1 second on the timing challenge AND his knowledge of vegetables was second to none when it came to the feel-it challenge. 👏

Don't forget that it's our club treasure hunt this coming Sunday, organised once again by Colin Fish. Details below:

Start at Kibblesworth club between 10-10.30am.
Finish at East Tanfield station DH9 9UY . Map 88/194 549.

This year's treasure hunt will be similar to last year's [except start venue] so no maps are required with easy to follow instructions around the total route of 20 miles with intermediate distances given as per Rally Tripmeter app.

Tea and coffee ,hot and cold snacks will be available from the Station Cafe....please support the Railway for allowing our use.
