Well done Peter Metcalfe - Winner last night of both club events!

Peter won the timing challenge dropping a mere 1 second on the timing challenge AND his knowledge of vegetables was second to none when it came to the feel-it challenge. πŸ‘

Hadrian MC are organising a touring assembly event on the 23rd August and have extended the invitation to members of Whickham & DMC.

It will be based at The Blacksmith’s Barn in Belsay. The morning leg will run to the west over classic road rally moorland roads to flank Kielder Forest and the Otterburn Ranges, before returning to Belsay for lunch. The afternoon leg will head east, through quiet lanes and pretty villages and visit some stage venues from the Yellow Brick Road Rally that the club ran in the 1990’s.

The event regulations have now been emailed to all WDMC members. The entry fee includes tea and coffee before the start, lunch at halfway and coffee and cake at the finish too! 😎

So feel free to pop an entry in if you fancy a nice Sunday drive that day.

On a slightly different note;

πŸ’₯ NEXT WEEKEND - Albemarle Autotest πŸ’₯

Last weekend, club member Jonny Chrisp was at Teesside competing on round 3 of Drift League GB, here's how he got on. πŸ‘‡

What a weekend! Qualified 11th place with a 76.7 point run and was slightly disappointed as I knew I could have done better. My top 32 battle landed me against Michael Dargan, for years we have wanted to drive together, and it finally happened. What a battle it was. Both cars running the same power and both local Teesside lads who know the track inside out. Fortunately, I took the win.

Top 16 battle was against Jack Chapman. After battling him in round 1 we both knew how each other drove. Unfortunately, on his chase run coming into clip 2 his car shut down. Not the way anyone wants to win as it could have been a great battle. But we move on.

Great 8 battle against Rob Poole and I think he slightly underestimated the little Volvo as he was caught lacking up the start straight and had a large gap. He knew this and put in an amazing lead run but unfortunately wasn’t enough and gave me the win.

Top 4 battle against Robert Spray, that car is FAST! I drove the Volvo as hard as I could to keep up and managed to do exactly that taking the win.

FINAL, what a feeling this was lining up for the last battle of the day, this was against Jack Drake in his E46 ROCKETSHIP! What a car and what a driver. I drove that Volvo absolutely flat out to keep up with him, but he took the win and what a deserved win it was.

Driving with the Pro Class 1 guys today was definitely an experience and a half! Even lining up in pre-grid practice felt surreal. Unfortunately, I only managed 3 laps of practice with these guys today due to a snapped drive shaft. No spares with me so Tony Chrisp had to drive back to the workshop to grab a shaft. We got it fitted in time for qualifying. Qualified 22nd place with a 63.7 run. Top 32 battle with Chrissy Nailen and his monster of a car absolutely dusted me from the start.

Pembrey circuit next for round 4.

Well done Jonny and Team Chrisp Motorsport, and good luck with round 4. A very long drive away! πŸ‘

There were quite a few club members out on this years Jim Clark and Jim Clark Reivers but it's unusual to have a father and son adventure across both events.

Club member Richard Holdsworth took part in both of the rallies. The JC on Fri/Sat in the drivers seat and on Sunday the JCR in the navigators seat with his father, Malcolm!

Here's a report from Richard of how it all went;

I entered the 'National' event on the Friday/Saturday in my Dads Mk2 Es**rt which he kindly let me use. We've had the car for several years, and this was the first time using it since 2016. In the meantime we've done a lot of work to improve the car. This was perhaps not the best first event for me to drive it but we like a challenge. My Co-Driver was Liam Charlton from Hexham who expertly guided me round the event.

Friday night was awesome, 2 runs round Bothwell and Abby St Bathans. Once each in daylight, once in the dark. Both stages have a good mileage and reminded of my formative years road rallying. We had an issue with oil leaking from the newly bought axle onto one of the rear tyres, this was inconvenient but quickly burnt off the tyre on the stages so didn't cost us too much time.

Saturday saw us complete 7 of the 8 planned stages, only one was bypassed due to a crash. A steady run saw us bring the car home unscathed in 66th place.

For the Sunday I co-drove my Dad (Malcolm) in his newly acquired historic spec Mk1 Es**rt RS2000. The Reivers consisted of 8 stages to the west of Duns. We've put a lot of effort into recommissioning the car and this was my Dad's first time driving it in anger. Please to say we had a trouble free run and enjoyed all of the stages. We got quicker throughout the day finishing in 69th place.
