What does a vehicle tracker actually do?

A tracker is designed to provide location information if a vehicle is taken or moved. Depending on the system, it may also include monitoring, alerts and support from a secure operating centre.

A tracker does not perform the same role as an immobiliser. It is primarily about locating the vehicle rather than preventing it from being driven, which is why some customers use both systems.

❄️ Is your Ghost immobilising the car—or is the vehicle battery struggling?

As temperatures fall, we receive calls from customers who believe their Ghost Immobiliser is preventing the vehicle from starting.

Very often, the real cause is a weak or discharged vehicle battery.

Cold weather places greater demand on a battery, and modern vehicles continue using power even while parked. A battery that appeared fine during warmer weather may begin showing problems as temperatures drop.

Common signs include:

🔋 Slow or weak cranking
💡 Dim or flickering dashboard lights
⚠️ Multiple warning messages
🔁 Electronics behaving inconsistently
🚗 The vehicle failing to start normally

The Ghost relies on the vehicle’s electrical system, so low voltage can make the symptoms appear security-related.

Why do some drivers choose both a Ghost Immobiliser and a tracker?

Because the two systems have different roles.

🔒 The immobiliser is designed to stop the vehicle being driven without authorisation.
📍 The tracker provides location information if the vehicle is taken or physically removed.

Using both can create a layered approach: prevention first, with a means of locating the vehicle if that prevention is bypassed or the vehicle is moved another way.

It is not automatically the right combination for everyone. Vehicle type, insurance requirements, parking arrangements and budget should all be considered.
