We are sorry to have to inform all our supporters that the extra trip we scheduled for Friday 2nd October from Sutton Weaver to Ellesmere Port has had to be cancelled and the trip to the Little Leigh Steam Party at The Leigh Arms is now sailing from Sutton Weaver to Acton Bridge, not from Ellesmere Port as advertised.
This is all due to continuing mechanical issues at Marsh Lock and is again, our of our control.
Anyone booked on the above trips should have received an email with this information and details on refunds etc.
We are deeply sorry to have to cancel another trip.

Sutton Weaver Swing Bridge – Acton Bridge, Cheshire via turn at Marsh Lock

Saturday 3rd October 2026 | 11:00 – 14:30 then 1.5 hours to look around the Steam Party. £55pp

This three-and-a-half cruise that sets off from our berth at Sutton Weaver Swing Bridge and we head towards the entrance to the Manchester Ship Canal - Marsh Lock - where we turn and head back up river, sailing through some of Cheshire’s most stunning countryside to our destination, above Dutton Locks - Acton Bridge, where we will arrive amongst other historic vessels who, like us, have travelled to Acton Bridge and The Leigh Arms pub to attend the Little Leigh end-of-season Steam Party. This event was started in the 1970’s by the late Peter Froud, and was a regular and popular venue for steam traction engine owners, including the late Fred Dibnah. It was also, and still is at times, attended by the Steam Tug “Kerne” as well as smaller steam narrowboats. A collection of steam rollers and traction engines will be on the car park of the Leigh Arms pub when we arrive and your coach back to your car at Dormex is planned to depart at 16:00 giving you time to take in the visiting steam attractions and maybe get an excellent pint of Robinsons in the Leigh Arms before you head off!

Easy transport :
We recommend parking at Dormex Containers WA7 3EG, which is free of charge and a short 5/7 minute walk to the Danny on her berth by the swing bridge. (please note there is NO public parking at the berth)

Our coach will collect you at Acton Bridge at 16:00 after having had time to look around the visiting attractions at the Steam Party, and return you to your car at Dormex.

A huge thank you to everyone who enjoyed Saturday’s and Sunday’s cruises with us this weekend. Despite the damp conditions both cruises were well supported and we are also hugely thankful to our wonderful volunteers both aboard and ashore for making everything work so smoothly. Finally a huge thanks to Canal & River Trust for their smooth operations and professionalism.
We were due to just have two more cruises this year on the 3rd and 4th of October, to and from the annual Little Leigh end of season steam party at the The Leigh Arms pub .
However, having had some trips cancelled in May due to technical issues with Sutton Weaver Swing Bridge, we are delighted to be able to confirm we now have additional trips now available.

Happy Birthday to us!🎂🎂🎂

We are 123 years old today.
24th August 1903 at the Tranmere Bay Development co's slipway at what is now Cammell Lairds wet basin, the Ralph Brocklebank as she was then known, entered the water for the 1st time. Built for the Shropshire Union Railway and Canal Co, carrying the name of one of their directors,.
Part of the London and Northwestern Railway company, she was built, along with two later sisters, to tow wide beam barges between their terminal docks at Ellesmere Port where cargo was transferred from Narrowboats to Liverpool for onwards shipment. Transferring to the Manchester Ship Canal Co in 1921 and a name change and refit with final retirement in 1984. Eventually saved from the scrap m**s torch and bought for £1 the rest as they say, is history. A remarkable story and the Danny as she is now known has touched many people's lives over the years. As owners and custodians the Daniel Adamson Preservation Society are committed to her future and longevity. Below are images from many stages innthis magnificent survivors life.
