This Lunar Quasar came in for inspection showing clear signs of axle collapse / overloading issues.

The axle was sitting dangerously close to the wheel arch with almost no suspension travel remaining. Combined with severe damp, rotten flooring and signs of overloading, this caravan now requires major repair work before it is safe to tow.

Many AL-KO caravan axles use rubber suspension elements inside the axle tube which deteriorate over time, especially where caravans have been overloaded or left standing carrying excessive weight. Once these weaken or collapse, ride height drops and the axle can no longer absorb road shock correctly.

During inspection we also found:

❌ Immediate Dangerous gas leak❌ Rotten and delaminated flooring❌ Damp readings up to 73%❌ Out of date tyres❌ Failed leisure battery❌ Charging faults❌ Brake reverse mechanism fault❌ Structural water ingress❌ Worn hitch stabiliser components❌ Signs of previous structural repair attempts

Signs to watch for:

⚠ Caravan sitting low⚠ Wheels high into wheel arches⚠ Uneven tyre wear⚠ Poor towing stability⚠ Suspension noises or bottoming out⚠ Soft or spongy flooring⚠ Excessive negative wheel camber⚠ Reduced clearance between axle and chassis

AL-KO recommend caravans are loaded correctly and operated within plated weight limits. Continuous overloading places excessive strain on the axle, chassis, tyres and braking system which can eventually lead to suspension collapse and unsafe towing conditions.

This caravan also highlights how severe damp and structural damage can remain hidden until a full inspection is carried out.

Another dangerous gas installation safely repaired today on a classic 1972 VW Bay Window Campervan 🚐🔥

The customer booked in for a gas safety inspection before using the hob system for the first time after a gas cylinder installation had previously been carried out elsewhere.

During testing, a MAJOR gas leak was immediately discovered as soon as the cylinder valve was opened. After investigation, it was found that the main gas pipe had never actually been connected into the manifold due to the pipe being left too long during installation. This meant LPG gas was discharging directly into the vehicle area 😳

Works carried out:
✅ Gas pipework modified and correctly connected
✅ New gas test point installed
✅ Full gas tightness test completed
✅ Full operational safety checks carried out
✅ Customer shown safe operation of the hob and gas system

Additional safety issues still requiring attention:
⚠️ No earth bonding to gas pipework
⚠️ No LPG drop vent fitted in gas locker

This could have ended very differently if the customer had attempted to use the system without having it checked first.
