Nippy Volvo ππ¨β¦
Every now and again a car comes through the doors that reminds us just how long weβve been doing thisβ¦
The owner of this 2014 Volvo V60 2.0 D4 has been a customer of ours since our early days in Inverness, so it was particularly satisfying to carry out software on his current car
And the results speak for themselves.
From the factory, this D4 should produce somewhere around:
177bhp / 400Nm
Before touching the software, we strapped it onto the dyno to establish exactly what we were starting with.

βοΈ 390.95Nm
Pretty much exactly where a healthy standard car should be. That gave us the perfect baseline to work from. This wasnβt a case of plugging the car in, loading a file and sending it back out the door.
This Volvo spent around 5 hours with us, working through hurdles to ensure this left far better than it came in.
Because peak figures are only part of the storyβ¦

Thatβs an increase of:
+60bhp
+144Nm
But looking beyond those headline numbers the dyno graph tells the more important story.
The torque doesnβt suddenly arrive in one huge aggressive spike.
Instead, it builds strongly as the revs rise, bringing the car onto boost progressively before climbing beyond 500Nm through the heart of the rev range. Thatβs where youβll feel the biggest transformation on the road.
Pulling away from lower RPM, accelerating through the gears or asking for an overtake, there is now a huge amount more torque available without the car needing to be worked hard.
And thatβs something weβre particularly interested in when developing software.
We donβt tune cars purely to create the biggest number we can put on social media.
What matters far more is:
How does the torque arrive?
How wide is the powerband?
Does it pull cleanly through the gears?
Does it feel progressive?
Can you actually use the additional performance?
That philosophy is behind what has become our signature smooth, progressive power delivery.
This V60 now has over 530Nm available from a 2.0-litre diesel, combined with a broad, strong power curve that completely changes the way the car feels in everyday driving.
And thatβs precisely what we wanted.
Not something temperamental.
Not something with a massive torque spike for the sake of an impressive graph.
Just a considerably stronger version of the car Volvo originally built.

Quite a transformation from a car that drove into the workshop producing almost exactly its original factory figures.
And after looking after this customer since our Inverness days, itβs great to still be trusted with their cars all these years later.
That part means just as much to us as our software calibrations
