This hot weather seems to have taken its toll on the numbers of bigger Tope being caught but there are still a few nice ones about. A few Mackerel, Whiting, Tub and Grey Gurnards, Huss, Smoothounds, Thornback Rays, Launce, Herring, Scad, Weever and the ever present Dogfish finish the recent catches.

A very interesting few days out. Started with a plague of Dogfish a few Huss, Rays Dabs, Pouting odd Smoothound and Whiting. The next day Bass, Codling to 4lb 12oz a few Dogs and Huss, then halfway through - the bites and fish almost dry up, the dreaded algae bloom was the cause.

The next trip needed a fresh plan, the result was about 6 or 7 Tope to 32 ¾lb, Smoothound, Dogs, Huss, Whiting and Dabs.

That is the reason behind going sea fishing, you never know how things are going to go from day to day. You don't see a Codling all winter and then 2 turn up on the same day in April along with a nice Bass, within 24hrs you're catching Tope, give it a fortnight and maybe Mackerel will be next to turn up with possibly a Garfish thrown in.

A lot more Smoothound are showing now along with better Huss, no shortage of Dogfish either unfortunately.

It's been nice to see a few Plaice and Rays coming out recently however I'm sure that the angling will get better if it ever stops raining for more than 24hrs!
The ebbs have been hard work with all the rain water coming down the rivers but as soon as the tide turns it's been like flicking a switch and the fish are there.

Species caught in the last couple of trips - : Huss, Dogs, Whiting, Flounder, Dab, Plaice & Thornback Ray.

Availability will be updated soon to include September and a few extra 4 ½ HR Summer late afternoon trips.

We were out yesterday for the first time since the start of February and things have definitely turned regarding spring fish.

First drop was for Plaice, it was slow going but did produce 4 fish plus one dropped off at the surface.

As the tide eased we moved over to the west side of the bay where Dogs, Dabs, Thornback Ray, pin Whiting and an early Bull Huss were caught. The obvious thing to note was that the better sized Whiting of winter were now gone and replaced by smaller ones.

In the coming weeks Plaice, Rays and Huss should become more prevalent before the return of Smoothounds - more likely in April.
